Women’s Soccer Continues Road Stretch Thursday at UMBC

PHILADELPHIA—Temple women's soccer (0-1, 0-0 AAC) will travel to UMBC (0-0-2, 0-0 America East) in pursuit of their first win of the 2019 season this Thursday, Aug. 29. The Owls will take on the Retrievers at 7 p.m.

Owl About Us
> The Owls are led by head coach Seamus O'Connor, who is in his seventh season leading the program. Temple is captained by junior Julia Dolan and seniors Morgan Basileo, Emily Keitel and Molly Tobin.
> Last time out, Temple opened its 2019 slate at No. 23 Wake Forest on Thursday, Aug. 22. The squad battled the Demon Deacons, but ultimately fell 3-0. Basileo was in net for the full 90 minutes, collecting 10 saves and making several key plays for the Owls.
> Temple returns the majority of its starters from the 2018 season. The Owls welcome back their leading offensive players in junior Emma Wilkins and sophomore Gabriela Johnson. Wilkins and Johnson led the team in points (12), with Wilkins netting six goals and Johnson scoring five and notching two assists. Johnson earned AAC All-Rookie honors in 2018.
> Dolan and sophomore Natalie Druehl are returning starters in the midfield and the defensive line returns Keitel and junior Marissa DiGenova. Basileo was a mainstay between the posts for the Owls, tallying 98 saves for the squad last season.

Tracking Temple
> Basileo tallied 10 saves against No. 23 Wake Forest in Temple's season opener.
> 17 Temple players made appearances in its first match of its 2019 slate. Four Owls, Mary Byerley, Madison Bee, Gianna Dragoni and Mikaela Maughn, made their debuts in the Cherry and White.

Scouting the Retrievers
> UMBC is led by head coach Vanessa Mann, who is in her 2nd season at the helm of the Retrievers.
> The squad is 0-0-2 on the season. Last time out, the Retrievers hosted St. Francis (Pa.), tying the Red Flash 2-2. Sophomores Danielle Fuentes and Laura Ventura found the back of the net for UMBC.
> Fuentes is a consistent offensive threat for UMBC. Through the first two games of 2019, she has three points (1g, 2a). Fuentes earned America East honors in 2018 after she was named to the conference All-Rookie team, finishing the year with nine points (3g, 3a).
> Two goalies have seen time between the posts for the Retrievers. Freshman Alyssa Minnick has logged 168 minutes in goal while junior Jade Wilkins has played 45 minutes.

> UMBC holds a slight advantage in the all-time series against Temple, leading 4-3.
> The teams last met on Aug. 26, 2011. The Owls took the decision, 2-1, over the Retrievers.
