Women's Soccer Takes on Penn Sunday in Philly Matchup

PHILADELPHIA—Temple women's soccer (2-3-3, 0-0 AAC) will head across town to face Penn on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Rhodes Field. The match between the Owls and the Quakers is slated to kickoff at 6 p.m.

Owl About Us
> The Cherry and White are led by head coach Seamus O'Connor, who is in his seventh season at the helm of the program.
> Temple is captained by junior Julia Dolan and seniors Morgan Basileo, Emily Keitel and Molly Tobin.
> Sophomores Hailey Gutowski and Gabriela Johnson each tallied their second goal of the season Wednesday night. Johnson's three-point performance (1g, 1a) moved her into the top spot on the Owls' offensive production list with six points (2g, 2a) on the year. Gutowski is close behind with five points to her name (2g, 1a) and DiGenova has four (1g, 2a).
> Basileo has notched 61 saves through 780 minutes of play. She has tallied double-digit saves twice this season (8/22 at Wake Forest, 9/12 at Maryland). Basileo also leads the American with an average of 7.62 saves/game and was named to the American Weekly Honor Roll this week for her outstanding efforts against Maryland and Rider.
 
Last Time Out
> Temple put on a strong team performance on Wednesday night, topping Wagner 2-1 at the Temple Sports Complex. The Owls victory was fueled by an explosive offensive performance in the second half with goals from Gutowski and Johnson.
> Entering the second half tied 0-0, the Owls came out firing. Just 37 seconds into play, Temple went out to a 1-0 lead. Emma Wilkins got the play going for the Owls and found Johnson in the attacking third. Gutowski collected the pass from Johnson and booted it into the back of net.
> Johnson gave Temple a 2-0 advantage in the 59th minute. Marissa DiGenova sent a well-placed ball into the box and found Johnson, who buried it in the upper right corner.
> Wagner responded with a goal in the 61st minute.
> The Owls' defense was instrumental in securing the victory for the squad. In the waning minutes of the match, several defenders made key stops to prevent the Seahawks from getting a quality look on frame.
> Temple maintained its perfect record against Wagner, moving to 7-0-0 all-time against the Seahawks.
 
Scouting the Quakers
> Penn (4-2-1) is led by Nicole Van Dyke, who is in her fifth season as head coach of the Quakers.
> Last time out, Penn dropped a 2-1 decision to Hofstra Friday night after falling behind 2-0 after 23 minutes of play. Katharine Larson scored her first career goal on a penalty kick.
> Forward Emily Sands leads the Quakers in offensive production. The senior has tallied 11 points (4g, 3a) through seven games. Midfielder Breukelen Woodard (3g, 1a) and forward Emma Loving (3a) are also attacking threats for Penn.
> Kitty Qu has been the mainstay in the net for the Quakers. She has contributed to three shutouts and made 33 saves through 515 minutes of action. Qu owns a goals against average of 1.40 and a 0.805 save percentage.

> Penn holds a slight advantage in the all-time series against Temple, going 7-5-0 against the Owls.
> The teams last met in 2015 at Penn's Rhodes Field. The Owls fell to the Quakers, 2-1.
