Golf Travels South for River Run Collegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Temple Golf team is back in action next week when the Owls travel to North Carolina to compete in the 18-team River Run Collegiate on Sept. 23-24.  Hosted by Davidson, the tournament will be played at the par 72, 7,208-yard River Run Country Club.
Scouting the Owls
> Temple opened its 2019 season with a ninth place finish at the Cornell Invitational (Sept. 14-15).
> The Owls will start the same five golfers this week, junior Dawson Anders, sophomore Conor McGrath, senior Liam McGrath and freshmen Graham Chase and Danny Nguyen.Â
> Anders led the team and tied for 14th overall among the 90 competitors at Cornell with four-over 217.
> Conor McGrath was next (t-29th, 221) while his brother Liam had his best round as an Owl, carding a 69 on his final round of the tournament.
The Field
> The 14 other schools in the field are Charlotte, Cleveland State, Davidson, Francis Marion, Furman, Gardner Webb, James Madison, Marshall, Mercer, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond, William & Mary and Wright State. Â
> James Madison won the 2018 River Run Collegiate by one stroke over Furman. Senior Keller Harper of Furman is the defending champion. He shot a nine-under 864 to win the tournament by two strokes.
> Temple placed fifth last year among the 13 competing teams. Only Anders and Conor McGrath played in the tournament for the Owls in 2018.
> There will be two rounds Monday with the final round held Tuesday.
