Field Hockey Plays #24 Maine to Scoreless Tie in Scrimmage

9.7.19 | Field Hockey

KENT, Ohio – Temple Field Hockey went toe to toe with #24 Maine for 70 minutes before the match ended short of completion due to a field issue with Kent State's Murphy-Mellis Field. The scoreless tie will be considered a scrimmage for NCAA reporting purposes.

Recapping the Scrimmage
> Defense ruled the first half as each team attempted just three shots in the opening 30 minutes.
> Temple jumped out quickly in the third quarter, earning a penalty corner and rattling off shots by Becky Gerhart and Nienke Oerlemans in the first two minutes.
> The Owls continued to pressure the Black Bears, as Kathryn Edgar had two shots in the period with Kerrie Lorenz and Cristen Barnett each adding one to account for the team's six shots.
> The fourth quarter was a defensive battle with neither team taking a shot in the period.
> Temple had the better of play in the first overtime period, outshooting Maine, 2-1.

Quotable
> "Unfortunate to end in a tie, but there are so many positives from today's game. We made some big adjustments after yesterday's game that the ladies did a phenomenal job implementing. Our press was executed brilliantly and our possession made massive strides from yesterday's game.
> Maine was a very skilled team and had some threatening opportunities that our defense managed very well. We are so excited to move on to our Bryant game next week!" – Temple head coach Susan Ciufo
