Women's Basketball Takes Down SMU 85-62

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team won their fourth straight game, recording a lopsided 85-62 win over visiting SMU in American Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The victory lifts the Owls to 10-6 overall, 3-1 in conference play, while SMU dips to 7-8 overall, 1-2 in the American.

Keys to the Game
> Temple led from start to finish, using huge advantages in the first and third quarters to set the tone of the game.
> The Owls led by 11 at the half and increased that lead to 34 points early in the fourth quarter before Temple emptied its bench.
> The Cherry and White shot 45.9% for the game to SMU's 31.5%, while the Owls connected on 10 threes, holding the Mustangs to just three from long range.
> Temple also held 52-43 advantage on the glass for the game.

Individual Highlights
> Junior Mia Davis led Temple on both ends of the floor, notching her seventh straight double-double. The forward finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and a career-best six assists, playing just the first three quarters. She now has 11 double-doubles this season and 28 in her career.
> Sophomore Marissa Mackins finished with 20 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
> Freshman Asonah Alexander had another solid all-around performance with eight points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.
> Graduate student Lena Niang netted 11 points with five boards while senior Shannen Atkinson had nine points and eight rebounds.
> Rounding out the box score for the Owls, sophomore Alexa Williamson had seven rebounds while redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones had six points and three assists.

First Quarter
> Temple dominated the first frame, jumping out to a 7-0 advantage and not looking back.
> Both Mackins and Jones connected for a pair of threes each, as the Owls shot 50% (11-22) from the field and 45.5% (5-11) from three.
> SMU cut the lead to 15-5 midway through the action, but Temple closed the quarter on a 12-0 run to go up 27-5.

Second Quarter
> Temple's offense cooled in the second, as SMU outscored the Owls 24-13.
> The Mustangs opened with a 7-0 surge, before a Niang three interrupted the run.
> SMU didn't let up, cutting the lead to single digits twice before an Alexander lay-up set the halftime score to 40-29.

Third Quarter
> Temple came out firing in the third, scoring the first eight points of the frame, going on a 20-2 run.
> SMU was held to just six points in the quarter, shooting just 11.1% (2-18), while the Owls connected on 61.1% (11-18).
> Overall it was a 24-6 frame in Temple's favor, setting the score after three to 64-35.

Fourth Quarter
> Temple opened the quarter on a 13-7 run, taking their largest lead of the game at 34 points (78-44) as Mackins nailed a three with 6:13 to play.
> From there, Temple called off the dogs, emptying the bench.
> SMU put together a 12-2 run, interrupted by Temple's Ciara Forde netting her first points of the season, before setting the final to 85-62 in the Owls' favor.
