Football Promotes Diersen to On-Field Coaching Role

PHILADELPHIA – Temple head coach Rod Carey announced the promotion of Brett Diersen from associate special teams coordinator to outside linebacker coach and special teams coordinator. This promotion allows Diersen to be one of the ten full-time coaches with an on-field role.
"Brett is an excellent coach and I'm really excited to get him back on the field," said Carey. "He adapted very well last year joining us right before the season. Brett has a wealth of experience to draw from on defense and works well with [defensive coordinator] Jeff [Knowles], Walter [Stewart], Melvin [Rice] and Tyler [Yelk]."
Diersen came to Temple in July 2019 after one season at SMU, rejoining Carey for the third time. The two originally met in 2000 at Wisconsin-Stout. Carey then hired Diersen to coach the defensive line in 2013 when he was the head coach at Northern Illinois.
A 21-year college coaching veteran, Diersen has spent time tutoring all levels of the defense as well as special teams. His career has taken him from Wisconsin-Stout (1998-2000 and 2004-06), Dubuque (2001-03), Minnesota State-Mankato (2007), Nebraska (2008-10), Indiana (2011), FAU (2012), NIU (2013-17), and SMU (2018).
