10.14.20 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – Even through postponements and changes in the NFL schedule, 11 former Owls were able to take the field and perform on Sunday afternoon.
Head coach Matt Rhule and Carolina have extended their winning streak to three games with a 23-16 win over Atlanta. Wide receiver Robby Anderson (2011-13, 2015) had eight receptions for 112 yards, his third game with 100+ receiving yards this year. Anderson has 489 receiving yards so far this season, which is 4th in the NFL. Captain linebacker Tahir Whitehead (2008-11) had four tackles in the win, tight end Colin Thompson (2014-16) again helped to block on a red zone touchdown, and safety Sam Franklin (2016-19) continued to see significant action on special teams. Atlanta guard Matt Hennessy (2016-19), who was coached by Rhule in 2016 and played with Thompson and Franklin, saw action on the offensive line in the loss.
Houston linebacker Jacob Martin (2014-17) had a strong game against Jacksonville, recording three tackles, as well as forcing a fumble in the fourth quarter while sacking Gardner Minshew, with the defense recovering the ball. Houston would score a touchdown on the ensuing drive to put the game out of reach, winning 30-14.
Elsewhere around the league, Indianapolis cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (2018) got his first start since returning from injury last week and recorded eight tackles and a pass defended in a 32-23 loss to Cleveland. Philadelphia linebacker Shaun Bradley (2016-19) has started to make an impression on the Eagles defense with three tackles, including a tackle for loss, as well as considerable special teams action in a 38-29 loss to their cross-state rival Pittsburgh Steelers.
Buffalo tackle Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and linebacker Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) played a special Tuesday night game against Tennessee, with Tennessee winning 42-16. Dawkins and the offensive line only allowed one sack and helped the offense to 370 yards and Matakevich added a tackle on special teams in the loss.
Arizona linebacker Haason Reddick (2013-16) had two QB hits in a 30-10 win against the New York Jets. Washington wide receiver Isaiah Wright (2016-19) had a reception for three yards and two punt returns for 13 yards in a 30-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, and Minnesota cornerback Harrison Hand (2019) saw substantial action on special teams in a 27-26 loss to Seattle on Sunday night.
Denver kicker Brandon McManus (2009-12) had his game against New England postponed and moved to next week.
