Owls in the NFL - Week 7
10.27.20 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – Week 7 was another exciting week in the NFL for former Owls, with 13 of them in action throughout the week.
The first action of the week was on Thursday night, when Philadelphia linebacker Shaun Bradley (2016-19) had a tackle on special teams in a 21-20 overtime win over the New York Giants, putting the Eagles atop the NFC East. Bradley also saw action on defense in the game.
On Sunday night, Arizona linebacker Haason Reddick (2013-16) had another stellar performance against Seattle, tying a career-high in total tackles (11) and setting outright career-highs in tackles for loss (3) and QB hits (3). Reddick also registered a key sack in overtime, which helped lead Cardinals to a 37-34 victory in sudden death, improving Arizona's record to 5-2.
Carolina and head coach Matt Rhule lost a close contest this week to New Orleans 27-24, dropping its record to 3-4. Wide receiver Robby Anderson (2011-13, 2015) had six receptions for 74 yards, bringing his season total to 640 receiving yards, still the 2nd most in the NFL. Rhule started two former Owls on his defense, in rookie safety Sam Franklin (2016-19), who earned the first start of his career and played every defensive snap while totaling two tackles, and captain linebacker Tahir Whitehead (2008-11), who had five tackles on the day.
Tight end Colin Thompson (2014-16) saw action blocking on offense and on special teams for Carolina, and started with the offense on the first play of the opening drive, meaning four former Owls started on offense and defense for Carolina this week (Anderson, Thompson, Whitehead, Franklin). Quarterback Phillip Walker (2013-16) backed up Teddy Bridgewater in the loss.
Buffalo offensive tackle Dion Dawkins (2013-16) played every snap for an offense that accrued over 400 total yards, helping the Bills to a 5-2 record with a 18-10 win over the New York Jets. Linebacker Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) saw action on special teams and had a tackle on the opening kickoff in the win.
After his record-breaking game last week, Denver kicker Brandon McManus (2009-12) converted his only field goal attempt, from 43 yards, and went one for two on extra points in a 43-16 loss to Kansas City.
Elsewhere around the league, Houston linebacker Jacob Martin (2014-17) saw significant action on the defense in a 35-20 loss to Green Bay, Tampa Bay linebacker Chapelle Russell (2016-19) saw action on special teams in a 45-20 win over Las Vegas, and Atlanta offensive guard Matt Hennessy (2016-19) saw action on the offensive line in a 23-22 loss to Detroit.
