Owls in the NFL - Week 14
12.15.20 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – 15 former Owls were in action in the NFL this weekend, all on Sunday, a day which included a historic performance from one of Temple's own.
That performance came courtesy of Arizona linebacker Haason Reddick (2013-16), who had five sacks, a new franchise record for the Cardinals, three forced fumbles, and six QB hits in a 26-7 victory over the New York Giants.
Reddick now has 10 sacks on the season, a new career-high and the 6th most in the NFL. The three forced fumbles he had on Sunday was also enough to set a career-high and he is now tied for the 6th most forced fumbles in the league this season.
For his efforts, Reddick was named the defensive player of the week in the NFL by PFF. He was joined on PFF's defensive team of the week by another Owl, Indianapolis cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (2018), who had four tackles and a pass breakup in the team's 44-27 win over Oakland.
For Carolina, wide receiver Robby Anderson (2011-13, 2015) had eight receptions for 84 yards, both team-highs, and added two carries for 13 yards. Anderson's 83 receptions this year are the 8th most in the NFL, and his 996 receiving yards are the 11th most in the league, as well as being a new career high. Tight end Colin Thompson (2014-16) saw action on offense and special teams and delivered a key block on a Mike Davis rushing touchdown in the first quarter. Linebacker Tahir Whitehead (2008-11) recorded a tackle in the game, and safety Sam Franklin (2016-19) saw action on special teams in the loss.
On Sunday night, Buffalo offensive tackle Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and linebacker Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) faced Pittsburgh in a battle of two of the top teams in the AFC. Matakevich set the tone early, breaking through and making a tackle on the opening kickoff, stopping Pittsburgh's return at their own ten-yard line.
Rookie Owls have continued to see substantial snaps in the NFL this year. Philadelphia linebacker Shaun Bradley (2016-19) saw increased action on defense and added two special teams tackles as the Eagles defeated New Orleans 26-15. Washington wide receiver Isaiah Wright (2016-19) earned his sixth start of the season and had a nine-yard reception in a 23-15 win over San Francisco. Minnesota and cornerback Harrison Hand (2019) traveled to Florida to take on Tampa Bay and linebacker Chapelle Russell (2016-19). Russell saw action on special teams as Tampa Bay came away with the victory 26-14. Hand also saw time on special teams in the loss.
Elsewhere, Houston linebacker Jacob Martin (2014-17) totaled two tackles in a 36-7 loss to Chicago, and Miami tight end Chris Myarick (2016-18) was called up to the active roster this week and saw snaps on special teams in a 33-27 loss to Kansas City.

Reddick is the first player in the NFL to have 5+ sacks in a game since Adrian Clayborn in 2017 and is one of only 17 players to accomplish the feat since sacks have been recorded (1982). He is also one of only 21 players to have 3+ forced fumbles in a game since that stat has been recorded (1999). Combining these two stats together, Reddick is only the second player in NFL history to have 5+ sacks and 3+ forced fumbles in a game, joining Vonnie Holliday who accomplished the feat in 2002.FIVE sacks and three forced fumbles for Haason Reddick today. 💪 #RedSea #AZvsNYG pic.twitter.com/1KykXs1Nvs

In other games, five former Owls saw action on the field in Charlotte, as Carolina head coach Matt Rhule and company faced off against Denver and kicker Brandon McManus (2009-12). McManus made two extra points in the game as the visiting Broncos won 32-27.NFL Week 14 Team of the Week
