Men's Basketball Tops UConn in Double Overtime Thriller

PHILADELPHIA - Temple continued its overtime dominance, defeating visiting UConn, 93-89, Thursday night in double overtime. With the win, the Owls improve to 14-12 (6-7 AAC) while the Huskies fall to 14-12 (5-8 AAC).

Temple now has won its last seven overtime games and last three double overtime games. The Owls have a nation-leading 12 overtime victories since 2014.

Game Summary
> Monty Scott set a season-high with 25 points to lead both teams. 
> Nate Pierre-Louis scored a career-high 23 points and tied his career-high with 14 rebounds in posting his second-straight double double and fifth of the season.
> Alani Moore II's (14 pts)  team-leading four steals tied his career-high, while Quinton Rose's (15 pts) team-high four blocks set a career-high.
> Four Huskies scored in double figures led by Christian Vital's 21.
> The game featured 10 ties and 12 lead changes with UConn holding a 12-point lead in the first half only to have Temple later scoring 13 straight to eventually lead by three at the half.  
> Neither team was able to open a double-figure lead the remainder of the contest.

First Half
> The Owls started out slow, keeping it close before going down 25-13 with eight minutes left in the half.
> Temple went on a 18-2 run sparked by five-straight points from Scott to take a 31-27 lead.
> The teams traded baskets to close the half, with the Owls going into halftime up 36-33.
> Scott's 11 points led Temple, while 14 from Vital led both teams.
> Temple shot 44 percent from the field, and five Owls picked up steals.

Second Half
> UConn went on a 6-0 run midway through the half, taking the lead with 14 minutes left in the game on a three from Brendan Adams.
> Temple took back the lead on a trey from Pierre-Louis, with two more lead changes to follow.
> The Owls would then open up their largest lead of the game, 65-57, on a bucket from Rose with just under four minutes to play in regulation.
> UConn would close the half on a 12-4 run with a layup by Isaiah Whaley (18 pts, 14 rebs) tying the game with five seconds on the clock.

Overtime
> Temple pulled ahead 73-69 on back to back buckets from Jake Forrester, but the Huskies were able to tie it up.
> UConn went up on three foul shots, but a trey from Scott with 21 seconds on the clock would force double overtime.
> The Huskies quickly went up 84-80 in the second overtime, but three free throws from Scott and a pair from Pierre-Louis moved the Owls ahead, 85-84.
>  Moore then sparked a mini 6-2 run with a driving layup and two free throws to extend the Owls lead to five, 91-86.
> After a three by Vital cut it to two, Moore iced the game with two more from the charity stripe.

Up Next
> Temple will close out February on the road, traveling to ECU and Wichita State. Tip-off against the Pirates is set for Sunday at noon on ESPNU.
