Róisín McGovern | Defender | Dublin, Ireland | Loreto Foxrock/Dublin University | DLR Waves

McGovern will come to North Broad from Dublin, Ireland, where she currently attends Dublin University and competed for the DLR Waves. She has had a prolific soccer career, as she was a member of the Dublin Representative Team that won the National Provincial Championships at the U14 and U16 levels. McGovern won multiple leagues and cups with her previous club team, Enniskerry FC, and won the National Championship as a U14. In the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 season, the Ireland native competed on the Ireland Women's U17 team that played in the UEFA U17 Championships. This past year, McGovern was selected to Ireland Women's U19 team that won seven straight qualifying games and advanced to the Elite phase of the UEFA Women's U19 Championship. Most recently, she captained Ireland's U19 team in the UEFA Women's Championship qualifiers and led them to advance to the Elite phase of the championship. In addition to soccer, McGovern played basketball for Loreto Foxrock and represented her county in Gaelic football. She was named the Senior Sportsperson of the Year as a junior in high school, earned the Outstanding Achievement and Contribution to Sport award as a senior and graduated with honors. McGovern plans on majoring in business and chose Temple for its ambitious and enthusiastic coaching staff and the high-level of education the school offers.

We're absolutely thrilled to welcome Róisín to Temple University. A student-athlete of her class and quality will have an immediate and lasting positive impact on our program. Róisín is a remarkably mature and professional student-athlete who is impressive both on the field and off. Her experience captaining the Irish U-19 National Team and playing amongst the best players in the world has provided her with an excellent education in the game, and her ambition to develop further as a player and as a person has led her to the great city of Philadelphia.
