Fencing Earns Highest Ranking in Program History

2.3.20 | Women's Fencing

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple fencing team earned its highest ranking in program history, coming in at No. 5 in the latest College Fencing 360 rankings.

Temple was ranked No. 7 in the first ranking release of the season before defeating three Top-10 teams including then-No. 1 Notre Dame at the Philadelphia Invitational. The Owls are 22-8 in dual competition this season, with two more dual meets on their slate before heading into the post-season.

A consistently Top-10 team, Temple's previous highest ranking was in 2017 when the squad came in at No. 6.

"It's been a team goal of ours for quite a while to make it into the Top-5 because we stay in the Top-10," head coach Dr. Nikki Franke said. "This is the first time we've made it and it's something that we've worked really hard for so we are very excited. Now our goal is to make sure that we stay where we're at which means that we need to continue to win some big matches and that's our challenge now."

The Owls will be back in action this weekend at the Duke Invitational, facing Duke, Brandeis, MIT, Notre Dame, and UNC.
