Women's Basketball Falls to Hot Shooting Shockers

PHILADELPHIA — Visiting Wichita State used hot three point shooting to tally an 85-75 win over Temple in American Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night. The loss dips the Owls to 13-9 overall, 5-4 in conference play. The Shockers improve to 13-10, 5-5 in the American. 

Keys to the Game
> Wichita State shot 51% from the field, including a massive 55.6% from three, connecting on 15 from long range.
> Temple shot 43% from the field and out-rebounded the Shockers 37-30, but turned the ball over 20 times in the game.
> The Owls built an eight point lead after the first quarter, but a 24-9 Wichita State surge in the second turned the game around.
> The Shockers led by as many as 16 before Temple cut it to seven midway through the fourth quarter.
> Back-to-back-to-back threes from Wichita State then put the game out of reach for Temple.

Individual Highlights
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones finished with 24 points and five assists.
> Sophomore Marissa Mackins added 18 points and six helpers.
> Freshman Asonah Alexander and sophomore Alexa Williamson each tallied 12 points with Alexander adding seven rebounds.
> Junior Mia Davis was held to nine points in the game, but pulled down a team-high eight boards.

First Quarter
> Temple had the early edge to start the game, but neither team took control until the final four minutes of play.
> Up one, the Owls rattled off a 12-5 run, backed by five points from Jones to take a 23-15 lead at the end of the frame.

Second Quarter
> As quickly as the Owls took the lead in the first, Wichita State got it back in the second, outscoring Temple 24-9 in the frame.
> Trailing by eight, Wichita State opened with a 10-1 run to go up 25-24 on a three.
> Temple got a bucket from Williamson to stop the run, but Wichita State kept rolling, connecting on four threes in the quarter to lead 39-32 at the break.

Third Quarter
> Temple opened with a Jones three, but Wichita State built its lead to double figures with six unanswered points.
> The Shockers led by as many as 15 in the frame, before Temple got key threes to cut it to 10, trailing 66-56 after three.

Fourth Quarter
> After Wichita State went back up by 15, Temple used a 9-1 run to narrow the lead to 75-68 with just over five minutes to play. 
> The Shockers answered with the final surge they needed, draining threes on three consecutive possessions to go back up by 14 with just over three minutes to play.
> Temple forced a few turnovers down the stretch but ran out of time to complete a comeback.
