GILBERT, Ariz. -  With 19 student-athletes named to the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, Temple once again tied for the second-most honorees of all 75 institutions to make the list.
This year, 1,052 total student-athletes earned recognition. The Division I National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.
Towson University led all institutions with 20 selections. Four schools tied for second-most including Temple, with the Owls joined by Dartmouth, Villanova, and Yale.Â
Seniors Cristen Barnett, Kathryn Edgar, Becky Gerhart, Grace Gober, Maddie Lilliock, Lucy Reed, and Sam Souder earned the honor all four years of their Temple field hockey careers.
Last week, Temple was announced as a Division I National Academic Team for earning a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2019-20 school year. The Owls were well above the mark, earning a semester GPA of 3.37 in the fall.Â
Two Division I academic awards remain to be announced — the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholars of Distinction will be announced on March 23 and the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete will be released on March 31.
