PHILADELPHIA – Temple track and field senior Millie Howard has been named the recipient of the prestigious Elite 90 award for the 2020 NCAA Division I Women's Track and Field Championship. Howard, a senior economics major, currently carries a 3.98 GPA after completing 119 credits over her seven semesters in Cherry and White.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Howard earned her first-ever bib at the national championship meet after running a school-record mile time of 4:36.37 just over a month ago at Boston University's Valentine Invitational. This time marked the fastest run by any American Athletic Conference female miler since the formation of the conference in 2013. She qualified for the national championship for the first time in her career and was seeded 11th out of 16 qualified student-athletes from around the country.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
