Owls Shine in Indoor Season Debut at UPenn Opener

PHILADELPHIA - Temple opened its 2025-26 indoor season this weekend at the UPenn Opener. The team competed against nine other schools. Inara Shell led the way for the Owls after finishing in third place in the long jump and triple jump.


Results
  • Shell beat the meet record in the long jump with a distance of 5.84 meters (19-02.00). In the triple jump she finished with a distance of 12.27 meters (40-03.25). 
  • Sophomore Reagan Schwartz came in fourth in the triple jump finishing with a distance of 12.08 meters (39-07.75). Aly Doyle placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.69 meters (18-08.00). Also in the long jump, Deja Scott leaped for a distance of 5.24 meters (17-02.25) to put her in 18th place out of 21 athletes. 
  • Reece Sullivan and Emelie Beckman tied one another for third in the pole vault with a height of 3.47 meters (11-04.50).
  • Freshman Smilla Ranebro jumped 1.62 meters (5-03.75) giving her 10th out of 14 competitors in the high jump. 
  • In the 300 meter race, Kenya Merritt ran a 40.43 to give her 16th place out of 49 athletes. Grace Hickman finished with a time of 41.74 which was good for 30th. Zayniah Ali ran a 42.05 to give her 32nd place. Janae Pettaway came across the line with a time of 42.77 putting her in 36th. Finally, Maliah Powell clocked in with a time of 43.57 to earn her 43rd. 
  • In the 600 meter race, freshman Kei-Mahri Hanna finished in ninth out of 21 athletes with a time of 1:36.70. Right behind her in 10th was Mariah Jameson with a time of 1:37.32, setting a new personal record for the sophomore. Jayla Green set a new personal record with a time of 1:39.18, placing her in 13th. Dicia Watkins came across the line with a time of 1:42.32 to give her 16th place. 
  • Laila Cottom (14th) set a new personal record of 3:01.95 in the 1,000 meter race. 
  • Freshman Rian Johnson was the only Owl to finish the 3,000 meter race and she ended with a time of 10:09.01. 
  • Lastly, Temple ran two teams in the 4x400 meter race. Kei-Mahri Hanna, Grace Hickman, Kenya Merritt, and Mariah Jameson ran in heat one and came in second with a time of 3:49.93. Maliah Powell, Dacia Watkins, Laila Cottom, and Jayla Green were in the second race for the Owls and finished seventh overall with a time of 3:59.54.

    The Owls will return to competition in the new year on January 10 at the Ott Center for the Penn Select Meet.
