Senior Spotlight: Maddie Gebert, Lacrosse
3/30/2020
A four-year member of the Owls, Maddie Gebert was the 2019 goals leader for Temple. A two-time American All-Preseason Team honoree, Gebert was named to the Big East Second Team after a breakout sophomore season and to the AAC First Team after an impressive junior season. With 212 career shots, she was just two shy of ranking in the top-10 in program history. Gebert will graduate in May with a degree in supply chain management.
Owlsports.com caught up with Gebert, as she finishes her final semester at Temple.

In the book of your life, what’s the title of the Temple chapter? "Just Roll With It."

What’s the best part about being a member of the lacrosse team at Temple/what will you miss the most? In order: the friendships, the gear, and being in shape.

What is your favorite memory of being a student-athlete at Temple? On the field: Scoring the game winning goal against Cincinnati in double overtime my sophomore year. It was a great feeling, especially after beating Denver just one game earlier. It was such a moment of high emotions and happiness, whenever I feel my confidence lacking I remember the feeling of scoring that goal and hugging all my teammates afterwards.
Off the field: It's split between the military bowl game with my teammates this past winter (our parents threw a classic lacrosse tailgate) and breakfast on Sunday mornings at Morgan Dining hall with my teammates. As many that could make it would meet at the dining hall for breakfast and take up 1-2 long tables and just hang out and eat tator tots.

If you could give advice to your freshman year self, what would it be? Appreciate every minute of every game. You work so hard in the off-season and for so many years leading up to your college career, but you only have a limited number of minutes to show off all that work. Also appreciate time off the field with your teammates more. College isn't all about school and lacrosse, you have to invest time in your friends as well.

Where do you see yourself in five years? I have no idea, but I'm very excited about this. I've had my life planned out for as long as I can remember. I don't remember making the choice to play lacrosse in college, it was just an expectation, and I committed to Temple in September of my junior year of high school. I've known where I will be in 5 years for my entire life until now, and I'm excited to see where life is going to send me.

I want to thank my dad for introducing me to the sport I love, and forcing me to keep playing even in moments I didn't love it so much and my mom for reminding me that there is a life outside of lacrosse and keeping me a well rounded person. Thanks to my sister for always being there to practice with me and keep me on my toes, my friend Sara for being my biggest supporter who knows nothing about the sport, and my teammates/roommates for literally always being around. Last, I want to thank all of my coaches and trainers over the years. However big or small your role may have seemed, every single one of you helped shape me into the person I am today and I cannot thank you all enough for the lessons you all taught me.Maddie Gebert, Temple Lacrosse Class of 2020
