Senior Spotlight: Joshua Field, Crew

4/29/2020

A three-year member of the Owls, Joshua Field transferred to Temple after his freshman year and immediately found success on the water. He won multiple golds with the Owls' novice eight boat as a rookie, including taking the title at the 2018 Dad Vail Regatta. As a junior and senior he moved up to the Owls' second varsity boat, winning silver at the 2019 Murphy Cup and helping Temple to the overall points trophy at the 2019 Dad Vail Regatta. Field will graduate from the Fox School of Business with a degree in Business Management.

Owlsports.com caught up with Field, as he finishes his degree at Temple.

In the book of your life, what’s the title of the Temple chapter?   It's Always Worth It.

What’s the best part about being a member of the crew team at Temple/what will you miss the most?  Just training with everyone day in and day out will be something I will greatly miss and the friendships that you build together through the joint struggle of those morning practices and rough times together. I’ve met some amazing people and some of my best friends through crew and just spending time with all of them is something I will miss a lot.

What is your favorite memory of being a student-athlete at Temple?  Winning Dad Vails in the Frosh 8 and competing at IRA’s in the 17-18 season was an amazing experience and something that I will never forget. With that said, making the team exposed me to a lot of amazing people whether that be the great coaching staff or the awesome Resnick team that we had available to us that tremendously helped us succeed. Also, exposure to all those great people along with being exposed to a lot of awesome people from other countries was really special.

If you could give advice to your freshman year self, what would it be?  Buckle up! it's going to be a crazy ride with lots of highs and lots of lows, you’ll question yourself a lot and face some extremely tough obstacles but you will overcome them and it will be a memorable journey that you will never forget.

Where do you see yourself in five years?  Honestly, when I transferred to Temple after my freshman year I originally came in with my “plan” and crew was not even a thought at that time, but life happens and presents new opportunities. Life has changed drastically each of my years at Temple, so to say where five years from now I will end up would be tough to say, but I do know that I hope in five years I’ve taken these lessons I’ve learned with my time here at Temple to grow and explore new things that can help others.

First I'd like to thank my family and the friends that I’ve made at Temple during my time here, the Coaching staff from Coach Perkins, Scott, Gus, Glavin, Mckenna, Fergal, Roth, Matusak, VJ and the rest of the training room staff for helping me get through the last year, and everyone I may have missed! I can’t thank you all enough for everything you guys have done for me and this team. It has been a crazy journey but I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a great team environment that is Temple Crew.
