Women’s Basketball Hosts UCF Saturday

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team welcomes UCF to McGonigle Hall on Saturday, Jan. 9 for a 2 p.m. start. The game will be aired on ESPN+.

THE OWLS
> Temple is currently on a three-game winning streak to remain one-of-three undefeated teams in the American Athletic Conference. #19 USF (8-1, 5-0 AAC) and UCF (5-1, 3-0 AAC) are the only other two programs without a conference loss this season. The Owls enter Saturday's game at 3-3 (3-0 AAC) on the year. 
> Senior Mia Davis averages a double-double of 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to lead the Owls. So far, the forward has recorded four double-doubles this season.
> Junior Alexa Williamson is Temple's second-leading scorer with 11.7 points per game, while pulling down 5.8 boards each game. The Houston, Pa. native was recently named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week and earned a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll. 
> Rookie Jasha Clinton was tabbed the AAC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 28 to mark Temple's first weekly honor by the conference this year. Clinton averages 9.2 points, 4.2 boards, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals per contest.
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander ranks ninth in the country with her 6.3 assists per game. The guard also leads the conference with 1.8 blocks per outing. 
> Senior Emani Mayo adds 9.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game to round out the starting lineup for Temple. 

OWLS' LAST TIME OUT: Temple 66, ECU 57
> The Cherry and White won their third-straight conference game on Jan. 6 at ECU. 
> Temple controlled the first quarter to hold an 18-14 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
> However, ECU was able to hold a two-point lead at halftime after outscoring the Owls 22-16 in the second frame. 
> The Owls shot 41.7% (25-60) from the floor, holding the Pirates to a 33.3 field goal percentage. 
> The back-and-forth game featured 12 lead changes.
> Temple held a 43-37 edge on the boards. 
> Williamson recorded a game-high 19 points for her third-straight game in double digits. The forward 77.8% from the field while adding seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal. 
> Davis registered her third consecutive double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. Davis now holds four double-doubles on the season, improving her career total to 39.
> Clinton added 11 points, a career-best nine assists, seven rebounds and three steals. 
> E. Mayo shot 50% from three-point range as she finished the game with nine points. 
> Alexander added an impressive stat line of five points, eight assists, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. 

SCOUTING UCF
> One of the three undefeated AAC teams, UCF arrives in Philadelphia with a mark of 5-1 (3-0 AAC).
> The Knights have topped Tulane (66-62), Tulsa (53-42) and Houston (55-46).
> UCF has been receiving votes in both the USA Today and WBCA Top 25 for the past three weeks. 
> Courtajia Sanders is the leading scorer for the Knights, averaging 12.8 points per game. 
> Leading UCF on the boards are both Masseny Kaba and Destiny Thomas with 6.0 rebounds per night. 
> UCF leads the conference in scoring defense, holding their opponents to 50.3 points per game. 

KNIGHTS' LAST TIME OUT: UCF 55, Houston 46
> The Knights topped Houston 55-46 at home on Jan. 3. 
> Courtajia Sanders led UCF with her double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. 
> Diamond Battles added 13 points and Brittney Smith chipped in 12 to round out the Knights' double-digit scorers. 
> Houston led 23-19 at halftime, forcing UCF to claw their way back after the break. The Knights worked to gain a one-point edge at the end of the third quarter before outscoring the Cougars 17-9 in the final frame to remain undefeated in AAC play. 
> UCF finished the game shooting 38.3% from the floor, 22.2% from long range and 65.4% from the charity stripe. 

TEMPLE VS. UCF
> Temple leads the all-time series against the Knights, 8-6. 
> The first meeting between the two programs came on Dec. 28, 1995 in Orlando, where the Owls fell 84-66. 
> The teams didn't meet again until Jan. 4, 2014, again in Orlando. Temple won the second matchup, 75-54.

LAST TIME THEY MET: UCF 67, Temple 64
> The Owls fell 67-64 at UCF on Feb. 26, 2020.
> UCF shot 45.5% from the floor and 66.7% from three-point range as the Owls were held to 40.7% from the field and just 26.7% from beyond the arc. 
> Temple controlled the action on the boards, outrebounding the Knights 43-29. 
> The Owls were forced into 14 turnovers, which converted into 19 points for UCF. 
> Davis led Temple with 23 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. 
> E. Mayo collected a season-high 11 points and senior Shannen Atkinson added seven points, 10 rebounds and delivered the Owls' lone block of the game.
