10.10.21 | Women's Volleyball

CINCINNATI - Temple (4-13, 0-6 AAC) dropped a tough American Athletic Conference matchup today at Cincinnati (10-4, 5-1), 3-1. The Owls went down two sets to none before winning the third set and ultimately dropping set four.

Recapping the Day
  • Temple got out to a rough start in the first set, trailing 7-1. The Owls began to make a run towards the end of the set, getting within three points of the Bearcats (18-15). Cincinnati, however, held off the visitors and finished the set with a 3-0 run to take a 1-0 lead over the Owls.
  • Set two started off better for the Owls as they took a 9-6 lead behind two kills each by Gem Grimshaw and Taylor Davenport. The Owls held an 11-10 advantage but saw that quickly disappear after a 3-0 run by the Bearcats. Temple and Cincinnati traded points until the score was tied at 22 and the Bearcats finished the set by winning the final three points.
  • Temple rebounded in the third set and used a 4-0 run behind kills from Grimshaw and Peyton Boyd to take a 10-9 lead. Cincinnati answered with two straight points before the Owls ran off four of their own, including three kills by Miray Bolukbasi to take a 15-12 lead.  Temple would not trail the remainder of the set, extending the margin to six (23-17) on another Bolukbasi kill, before settling for a 25-21 win.
  • A 6-0 run by the Bearcats broke open the fourth set, giving the home team a 15-6 lead. The dominate stretch by Cincinnati was too much to overcome as they took won the final set 25-18.
Individual Highlights Quotable: Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam
  • "I thought we played a really good match today.  Obviously in the situation we are we want to win and compete in every match we can.  I think sometimes you make the mistakes by evaluating your performance only based on wins and losses.  Today I thought we played a really good match."
  • "I though the team did a much better job of competing today and doing some really good things on the court."
Up Next
  • Temple returns home to McGonigle Hall on Friday, Oct. 15 to host USF (7 pm/ESPN+).
