Last Week
Before the bye week, Temple suffered a disappointing loss to then #5 Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium, 52-3. The Owls fell behind 17-0 early before a 55-yard field goal by Rory Bell cut the deficit going into halftime. From there, however, the Bearcats took over in the second half, scoring 35 unanswered points to keep the game out of reach for Temple.
Last Time vs. USF
The last time Temple faced USF was October 17, 2020, defeating the Bulls by a score of 39-37 in Philadelphia. Trailing by 11 points late in the third quarter, Temple scored three touchdowns in just over 11 minutes to retake the lead, 39-31, and then stopped USF on its two-point try in the final minute to secure a win in its home opener at Lincoln Financial Field. Temple quarterback Anthony Russo had a stellar offensive game, completing 30-of-42 passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns. Russo connected with six different receivers throughout the game with Jadan Blue (9-60-2) and Randle Jones (8-81-1) leading the way. Wide receiver Branden Mack caught Russo's other touchdown pass, a 12-yard pitch and catch late in the third quarter. Re'Mahn Davis did the bulk of the work on the ground, rushing 25 times for 83 yards while Tayvon Ruley also had a strong game with six carries for 39 yards. It was the Owls' defense that came up big in the end, however, as defensive end Arnold Ebiketie (6 tackles) picked up a fumble with just under 10 minutes to play and ran 11 yards to paydirt to give Temple the lead for good, 32-31.
Last Time vs. USF @ Raymond James Stadium
The last time the Owls faced off against the Bulls in Tampa was November 7, 2019 at Raymond James Stadium. Temple won 17-7 in a low scoring affair that saw the Owls take the lead late in the second quarter with a touchdown pass from Russo to tight end Kenny Yeboah. From there, the Owls never let go of the lead thanks in part to a 39-yard fumble return by Sam Franklin midway through the third quarter. Jager Gardner rushed for a season-high 133 yards on 25 carries to close the game out for the Owls while Jadan Blue recorded 11 catches for 121 yards to lead Temple in receiving. On the defensive side of the ball, Quincy Roche logged a season-high 3.5 sacks while the defense held their opponents to under 10 points for the second time in 2019.
