Women's Basketball Drops Home Contest to St. John's, 76-67

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's basketball team (1-2, 0-0) dropped the first of three straight home games on Wednesday night, falling to St. John's (2-1,0-0), 76-67. After leading by three points going into the fourth quarter, an 11-6 run for the Red Storm eliminated the lead and saw Temple trailing 64-62 early in the final frame. From there, the Owls could not get back in the game, giving up a 10-0 run to end the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach.
Statistical Leaders
> Senior Mia Davis led the Owls with 25 points, 17 of those coming in the first half. She added 15 rebounds to give her a double-double.
> Alexa Williamson followed closely behind her with 19 points of her own.
> Jiselle Thomas added 11 points and 5 assists.
First Quarter: Temple 26, St. John's 16
> Going into the first media timeout the Owls saw early scoring from Davis, Holmes, and Thomas. They saw themselves holding an 11-10 lead.
> A 15-6 run for the Cherry and White gave Temple a ten-point lead going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter: Temple 43, St. John's 38
> A 6-0 Red Storm run cut the Owls lead down to four with 7:20 remaining in the second.
> Midway through the quarter Temple held an 11-point lead, behind 13 points from Davis.
> St. John's ended the half on an 11-4 run which cut Temple's lead to five at the break.
> Davis closed the first half with 17 points.
Third Quarter: Temple 56, St. John's 53
> An early three from Aniya Gourdine paired with a bucket from Davis pushed the Owls lead back into double digits.
> Teams traded buckets midway through the third quarter. Temple held a 51-44 lead.
> A 9-5 St. John's run cuts the Temple lead down to three at the conclusion of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Temple 67, St. John's 76
> An early barrage of threes from St. John's put the Red Storm on an 11-6 run to take a 64-62 lead.
> A 10-0 run by the Red Storm was too much for the Owls to overcome.
