Owls in the NFL - Week 8

11.2.21 | Football

Seven of the NFL's first eight weeks have started off with a Temple Owl on the NFL's Thursday Night Football showcase. This past week included Michael Dogbe (2014-18) and his undefeated Arizona Cardinals. Dogbe recorded a career-best six tackles but it wasn't enough as the Cardinal lost to Green Bay, 24-21.

The Monday Night Football clash also included an Owl. Quincy Roche (2016-19) and his New York Giants went to Kansas City and gave the Chiefs all they could handle before falling 20-17. Roche contributed with two tackles, including one for a loss.

Two Sunday contests pitted Owls against Owls and proved that the more Owls you have, the better.

In Atlanta, Matt Hennessy (2016-19) had the task of facing Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule (2013-16) and his army of former Owls. Besides a number of staff members, Rhule played seven former Owls - Robby Anderson (2011-13, 2015), P.J. Walker (2013-16), Keith Kirkwood (2014-17), and Colin Thompson (2014-16) on offense, Haason Reddick (2012-16) and Sean Chandler (2014-17) on defense, and Sam Franklin (2016-19) on special teams. All contributed something to the 19-13 win and the Panthers may see Walker start next week with Sam Darnold suffering from a concussion.

In Denver, Brandon McManus (2009-12) and Nate Hairston (2012-16) outdueled Matt Ioannidis (2012-15) and his Washington Football Team, 17-10.

Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) propelled the Bills to a 26-11 win vs. Miami while Shaun Bradley (2016-19) made a career-high three tackles in the Philadelphia Eagles' 44-6 thrashing at Detroit.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Bruce Arians (1983-88), Indianapolis Colts' Rock Ya-Sin (2018) and Minnesota Vikings' Harrison Hand (2019) all suffered heartbreaking defeats. The scores were 36-27, 34-31, and 20-16, respectively.

Houston Texans' Jacob Martin (2014-17) suffered a 38-22 defeat to the Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars' Chapelle Russell (2015-19) were defeated at Seattle, 31-7.

Tavon Young (2012-15) and the Baltimore Ravens had a bye week.
