Owls in the NFL - Week 11
11.23.21 | Football
Everyone knows that Owls are nocturnal animals and the darkness of primetime games has provided a spotlight for the Temple brand.
Â
All three NFL primetime games showcased the Owls. Thursday Night Football featured Matt Hennessy (2016-19) and his Atlanta Falcons who lost to New England, 25-0. Sunday Night Football was the spot to witness the debut of Daniel Archibong (2016-20). He notched two tackles as his Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the Chargers, 41-37. Quincy Roche (2016-19) had a career-high six tackles, including one TFL, as his Giants played at Tampa Bay on Monday Night Football. Bruce Arians (1983-88) led the Buccaneers to a 30-10 win to close out week 11.
Â
Two players whose teams were coming off a bye were well rested and helped their teams to victory. Tavon Young (2012-15) had two tackles as the Ravens beat the Bears, 16-13. Jacob Martin (2014-17) and his Houston Texans surprised Tennessee, 22-13. Martin contributed two tackles and a forced fumble.
Â
Shaun Bradley's (2016-19) Philadelphia Eagles and Michael Dogbe's (2014-18) Arizona Cardinals continued their winning ways as well. Bradley added to his NFL-leading special teams tackle total with one stop in a 40-29 win. Dogbe went to Seattle and helped the Cardinals' defense in a 23-13 road victory.
Â
In Carolina, the focus of the broadcasters was on Cam Newton playing against his former coach, Ron Rivera. However, it was Washington's Matt Ioannidis (2012-15) who got the best of his former Temple coach, Matt Rhule (2013-16). Ioannidis had one tackle as Washington beat Carolina, 27-21. Newton's return pushed P.J. Walker (2013-16) to the sideline but there were still plenty of former Owls on display. Robby Anderson (2011-13, 2015), Colin Thompson (2014-16), Haason Reddick (2012-16), Sam Franklin (2016-19), and Sean Chandler (2014-17) all saw action for the Panthers. Anderson had five catches for 30 yards and Reddick had five stops.
Â
Another Owl flying solo took on a parliament with surprising results. Rock Ya-Sin (2018) and his Indianapolis Colts defeated Dion Dawkins (2013-16), Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) and the Buffalo Bills, 41-15. Ya-Sin had one tackle and one pass defensed while Matakevich chipped in two tackles.                      Â
Â
Chapelle Russell (2015-19) made one tackle as his Jacksonville Jaguars lost, 30-10, to the 49ers.
Â
The Denver Broncos had a bye providing Brandon McManus (2009-12) and Nate Hairston (2012-16) some midseason rest.
