11.30.21 | Football

The primetime spotlight continues to be kind to the Owls who had representation in all three nationally televised nighttime games and Owls came out on the winning side in each contest.

Coincidentally, the three former Owls who served as captains for the 2015 team - Matt Ioannidis (2012-15), Tyler Matakevich (2012-15), and Tavon Young (2012-15) – each had their turn in the national spotlight.

Matakevich and Dion Dawkins (2013-16) helped the Buffalo Bills to a 31-6 victory at New Orleans on Thanksgiving Eve. Young and his Baltimore Ravens hosted the Browns on Sunday Night Football and the cornerback had two tackles in a 16-10 win. Ioannidis had three tackles and two quarterback hits as his Washington Football Team beat Seattle, 17-15.

The 2019 Temple team was well represented in a couple of early Sunday afternoon games.

The Philadelphia market was treated to a broadcast between the Eagles and the New York Giants. Philadelphia native and Cheltenham High product, Chris Myarick (2015-19) made his first NFL catch and it resulted in a touchdown which was the difference in a 13-7 win by the Giants. Quincy Roche (2016-19) had three tackles for the Giants and Shaun Bradley (2016-19) played special teams for the Eagles.

Matt Hennessy's (2016-19) Atlanta Falcons bested Chapelle Russell's (2015-19) Jacksonville Jaguars, 21-14.

Bruce Arians' (1983-88) Tampa Bay Buccaneers withstood the Indianapolis Colts, 38-31, despite three tackles by Rock Ya-Sin (2018).

The Denver Broncos outlasted the Los Angeles Chargers, 28-13, with contributions from Brandon McManus (2009-12) and Nate Hairston (2012-16). McManus connected on all four PATs and Hairston chipped in a tackle and a pass defensed.

Jacob Martin's (2014-17) Houston Texans lost to the Jets, 21-14, and Daniel Archibong's (2016-20) Pittsburgh Steelers dropped matchup to Cincinnati, 41-10.

Matt Rhule's (2013-16) Carolina Panthers lost to the Dolphins, 33-10. Five former Owls saw action in that game - Robby Anderson (2011-13, 2015), P.J. Walker (2013-16), Haason Reddick (2012-16), Sam Franklin (2016-19), and Sean Chandler (2014-17). Walker was 5-10 passing for 87 yards. Anderson caught one ball for 15 yards. Reddick (4 tackles), Franklin (2) and Chandler (1) made plays on defense, while Chandler converted a fake punt with a 14-yard gain.

Michael Dogbe (2014-18) and his Arizona Cardinals had a bye.
