Football Ready For Saturday Clash vs. Houston

11.8.21 | Football

This Week
The Owls return home to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Houston Cougars. This matchup marks the second-to-last home game for the Cherry & White. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00pm on Nov. 13, and is set to air on ESPN+ and 97.5 The Fanatic.

During the game, Temple will honor the 2011 football team that played under the direction of first-year head coach Steve Addazio. Temple finished the 2011 season at 9-4 overall and won the second bowl game in program history with a 37-15 victory over Wyoming in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl. Tahir Whitehead and kicker Brandon McManus are the two players from that team who remain active in the NFL.

Last week
Last week, Temple dropped its sixth game of the season to East Carolina by a score fo 45-3. Two missed field goals in the first half kept the Owls off the scoreboard as the Pirates scored two quick touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead going into the break. From there, the Owls were not able to get back into the game as Temple was outscored 24-3 in the second half.

Last Time vs. Houston
The last time the Owls faced off against the Cougars was in 2018 in Houston. It was a high-scoring and run-dominated 59-49 win. Against Houston, RB Ryquell Armstead and the offense went score-for-score with the electric Houston offense. Armstead has a career game finishing with 210 yards and a career-high and AAC-record six touchdowns. He was just one touchdown shy of tying the program record held by Montel Harris who scored seven in 2012 against Army. Armstead wasn't the only Owl to get into the end zone, as Temple DT Freddie Booth-Lloyd had a one-yard rush for a touchdown, his third score of the season. WR Ventell Bryant penned his name in the Temple record books by surpassing Willie Marshall's all-time receiving yards record of 2,272 yards.

Last Time vs. Houston @ Lincoln Financial Field
The last time Temple and Houston played at Lincoln Financial Field was on September 30, 2017. Temple was held scoreless in the first half and made a bid for a comeback but fell just short, 20-13. Temple kept the game close three interceptions, 10 penalties, and just 4-12 third down conversions.

Up Next
Up next, Temple flies back out of the nest to take on Tulsa on November 20 for its final road game of the season. Kickoff is set for 4:00pm and will air on ESPN+.
