Owls in the NFL - Week 15
12.22.21 | Football
Week 15 in the NFL was ravaged by COVID protocols with players missing games and games being postponed for days at a time.
Â
All of that was capsulated for Temple alums in the final game of the week last night. Unusually, the Eagles hosted Washington on a Tuesday night and won 27-17. Matt Ioannidis (2012-15) came off the COVID list just in time for the game and contributed four tackles. Shaun Bradley (2016-19) helped the Eagles on special teams.
Sunday's game between Matt Rhule's (2013-16) Carolina Panthers and the Buffalo Bills had a chance to provide Temple fans with a large parliament of Owls. The two team's active rosters employed nine players from Temple setting the stage for the biggest representation from one school in any NFL game this season. In all Carolina had Robby Anderson (2011-13, 2015), P.J. Walker (2013-16), Keith Kirkwood (2014-17), Colin Thompson (2014-16), Haason Reddick (2012-16), Sam Franklin (2016-19), and Sean Chandler (2014-17). While the Bills had Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and Tyler Matakevich (2012-15). However, COVID protocols forced Dawkins and Walker to miss the game and just five ended up playing. Matakevich racked up five tackles in just 22 plays as Buffalo won 31-14. Anderson had 62 yards on five touches, while Chandler (3 tackles), Reddick (4 tackles, 0.5 sacks), and Franklin helped the defense.
Â
Jacob Martin (2014-17) helped the Texans beat Chapelle Russell (2015-19) and Jacksonville, 30-16.
Â
Temple's group of Owls have proven that they are a nocturnal breed as they have exhibited success in primetime games this season. Rock Ya-Sin (2018) had a tackle and a pass defensed in a Saturday night contest against New England, prevailing 27-17. Harrison Hand (2019) saw special teams action as the Vikings won at Chicago on Monday Night Football, 17-9.
Â
Quincy Roche (2016-19) continued to make big plays despite his Giants losing to the Cowboys., 21-6. He collected four tackle and 0.5 sack while Chris Myarick (2015-19) saw limited action on offense and special teams.
Â
Atlanta's Matt Hennessy (2016-19) and Baltimore's Tavon Young (2012-15) started for their teams in losing efforts. The Falcons stumbled 31-13 at San Francisco and the Ravens were edged out by Green Bay, 31-30.     Â
Â
Michael Dogbe's (2014-18) Cardinals have struggled after going 7-0 and dropped a road game at Detroit, 30-12 despite Dogbe's two tackles. Brandon McManus (2009-12) and Nate Hairston (2012-16) couldn't help the Broncos overcome Cincinnati, 15-10. McManus was 1-2 on FGs and 1-1 on PATs and Hairston added a tackle. Kenny Yeboah (2016-19) and his Jets wiped out in Miami, 31-24. And Bruce Arians' (1983-88) Buccaneers were shutout by New Orleans, 9-0.
