Volleyball Hosts Preseason AAC Favorite UCF Thursday and Friday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team continues play in the American Athletic Conference this week, hosting preseason favorite UCF on Thursday and Friday. Thursday's match will begin at 1:00 p.m. (moved due to weather), while Friday's will start at 5:00 p.m. Both matches are at McGonigle Hall and will be aired live on ESPN+.

OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
Temple is 5-1 on the season with a 1-1 mark in conference play. The Owls are fourth in the conference, hitting .236 as a team, while opponents hit .190  against them. Junior Miray Bolukbasi leads the Owls' offense with 4.08 kills per set, while classmate Gem Grimshaw averages 3.59. Junior Tyler Lindgren runs the offense, dishing out 10.00 assists per set. Freshman Falanika Danielson averages a conference-best 5.37 digs per frame, while classmate leads Temple with 20 total blocks.

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 3, USF 1 (20-25, 25-20, 28-26, 25-18)
Temple rebounded from a 3-2 loss on Friday to top USF, 3-1, on Saturday.  After falling 25-20 in the first set, the Owls tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-20 win in the second frame. Temple pulled out an incredible 28-26 win in the third and then finished out the set with a 25-18 win in the fourth. Gem Grimshaw led the Owls' attack with 18 kills, adding 11 digs for a double-double, to go along with four blocks and two aces. Miray Bolukbasi finished with 16 kills and seven digs, while Tyler Lindgren tallied 42 assists with seven digs. Freshman Falanika Danielson had a match-best 27 digs, while classmate Taylor Davenport was strong at the net with four blocks.

SCOUTING UCF
UCF enters this weekend's games with a 6-0 overall record, but the team hasn't played since February 9. The Knights open conference play with this week's matches.  As a team, UCF leads the conference with a .287 attack, holding opponents to a .148 hitting percentage. The Knights also lead the conference in blocks (3.05) and aces (1.95) per set. UCF is led by the Preseason Player of the Year in McKenna Melville, who leads the team and conference with 5.00 kills per set, while Nerissa Moravec leads the AAC with a .458 hitting percentage and also 1.71 blocks per set.

TEMPLE VS. UCF
Temple is 7-10 all-time against UCF. The Knights have won five straight in the series, including winning both matches last season.

LAST TIME THEY MET: UCF 3, Temple 0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-21)
UCF took a 3-0 win in the penultimate match of the Owls' 2019 season, grabbing the sweep with set scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-21. Miray Bolukbasi racked up 22 kills, a career best, while hitting .357 to lead the Owls. McKenna Melville tallied 18 kills for UCF, while Erin Olson had 20 assists and eight digs in the win.
