Women’s Soccer Topples Villanova for Nick Bochette’s First Win at Temple

2.17.21 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (1-1, 0-1 AAC) landed its first win of the season with a dominant victory over the Villanova Wildcats, 3-0 at Higgins Soccer Complex. The win marks the first of head coach Nick Bochette's career with the Owls and the first for the program versus Villanova since their first meeting back in 1992.

How it Happened
> The Owls came out ready to play with a scoring attempt by captain Julia Dolan in the 2nd minute that was just high of the goal.
> Villanova would answer with back to back shots from forward Allison Breed, but goalkeeper Kamryn Stablein was there with the stop.
> Breed and fellow forward Sam Rosette would go on to continue the search for the Villanova's first goal of the season with shots in the 14th, 16th, 20th and 32nd minutes, but Stablein stayed strong and showed no signs of giving up.
> After a back and forth, promising 45 minutes, the teams went into halftime scoreless.
> The Owls started off the second half with a flurry of shots from Emily Kavanaugh, Hailey Gutowski, Lexy Endres and Róisín McGovern.
> A second shot from Gutowski in the 53rd minute, with an assist from Kavanaugh, found the back of the goal and put the Owls on the board.
> With momentum going its way, Gutowski continued the pressure with a shot in the 56th minute, followed by freshman Eliza David, making her Temple debut, with another shot in the 57th minute.
> It would be Emma Wilkins, on a pass from Djavon Dupree, who would find the goal again and put Temple up 2-0 in the 57th minute.
> The Owls would go on to score yet again, this time with a solo shot from Kavanaugh, marking her first as an Owl in the 67th minute.
> Villanova started to bring the pressure with four shots on goal, but Stablein remained rock solid with some incredible saves.
> Transfer Teri Jackson would try to add one more to the scoreboard for the Owls, but would come up just short.
> As the clock started ticking down, Villanova fought back with three more shots on goal, but Stablein, who finished with nine saves for her first shutout as an Owl, had no intention of giving giving up a goal.
