UCF Tops Volleyball in Straight Sets

PHILADELPHIA — Temple volleyball fell in three sets to UCF on Friday night, dropping the match 25-19, 25-12, 25-16. The Owls fall to 5-3 overall, 1-3 in conference play. The Knights, who are receiving votes in the national poll, improve to 8-0, 2-0 in the American.
How it Happened
> Temple struggled with serve-receive, keeping the offense out of system throughout the match.
> Still, the first set was tight, with Temple leading 19-17 before an 8-0 UCF run ended it, carrying the momentum into the final two frames.
> A lopsided 25-12 set two gave the Knights a 2-0 lead before they closed it out in the third with a 25-16 win.
> Temple was held to just a .060 attack, their lowest offensive performance of the season.
> UCF hit .214 and recorded 11 aces on the night.
Individual Highlights
> Freshman Falanika Danielson led all players with 16 digs, her fifth-straight match with that honor.
> Junior Miray Bolukbasi had nine kills while classmate Gem Grimshaw had seven kills with nine digs.
> Junior Tyler Lindgren tallied 21 assists with nine digs.
> Freshman Taylor Davenport had a team-high four blocks.
Set One: UCF 25, Temple 19
> A tight first set looked to be a repeat of yesterday's match, as again UCF pulled away late.
> The Owls erased an early 9-5 UCF advantage using a long Grimshaw serving run to go up 19-17.
> Once again the Knights responded at the net, blocking their way to eight straight points to win 25-19.
Set Two: UCF 25, Temple 12
> UCF held the Owls to a negative attack, as the Knights ran away with the set.
> It was close early, though UCF held the edge.
> With the Knights up 11-7, the visitor's used a 9-2 run to take control, 20-9.
> Temple got a few points back, but failed to close the gap as UCF won 25-12.
Set Three: UCF 25, Temple 16
> Temple challenged midway through the third set, but UCF closed it out.
> UCF jumped out to an 8-5 lead, before Temple narrowed the gap to 11-9.
> The Knights surged ahead once again, taking a 17-13 advantage.
> Temple was unable to get much closer, as UCF finished out the 25-16 and 3-0 win.

> Temple is back in action at home next weekend with matches on Friday and Saturday. Friday's opponent is to be determined, while Saturday the Owls will host Towson at 1:00 p.m.
