Mastropietro, Roth, and Taylor Earn AAC Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas - After a blowout victory over the Delaware Blue Hens in the season opener Saturday, attacker Mackenzie Roth, midfielder Belle Mastropietro, and defender Courtney Taylor have been honored by the American Athletic Conference. Roth has earned AAC Attacker of the Week, Mastropietro garnered AAC Midfielder of the Week, and Taylor has been named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts in the win.
Roth's honors are the first of her Temple career. For Mastropietro, this is the second time she has been honored after earning Freshman of the Week last season. While Taylor has not won an AAC weekly award yet in her career, she was named All-AAC Second Team in 2019.
Roth had a coming-out party Saturday in what was the best performance of her Temple career to date. The sophomore attacker fired home all four of her shot attempts for a game-high four goals. Roth also added two assists to lead all players in points with six. Her four goals are the first of her collegiate career.
"Mackenzie didn't have a chance to perform like that last year, so it's exciting to see her come out and make her true debut on the field. She played a really poised game with smart shooting," head coach Bonnie Rosen said.
Mastropietro put together a complete performance in all facets of the game. Last season she led the Owls in goals, points, and shots on goal. She picked up where she left off with three goals and two assists, good for five points. The sophomore midfielder also fired off a team-leading nine shots and picked pick up two groundballs.
Taylor had a stellar day leading the Temple backline. The senior captain showed why she was named preseason All-Conference, playing a huge role in a 17-minute Delaware scoring drought that allowed Temple to pull away from the Blue Hens. Taylor picked up a team-leading three groundballs.
The Owls will return to action on Friday, Feb. 26 against Villanova at Howarth Field. The Big 5 match-up is set for 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
