Men’s Soccer to Face USF in Early Season Rematch

PHILADELPHIA-- The Temple men's soccer team will host their first rematch of the 2021 season against the USF Bulls on Saturday night. The 7 p.m. match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from the Temple Sports Complex.
THE OWL POST
> Temple is 1-2 to start the season. The Owls are locked in a three-way tie in the American Athletic Conference for the third straight week. This time Temple is tied with UCF, and this week's opponent USF.
> This is the first of five rematches with AAC opponents this season thanks to the double round-robin schedule.
> Temple and USF played to open the season on Feb. 6th. Midfielder Jalen Campbell scored a pair of goals to send the Owls home with a win in a high-scoring 3-2 affair.
LAST TIME OUT: 2OT- TEMPLE 1, MEMPHIS 2
>Last week's match against Memphis was delayed to Tuesday and flipped to a Temple home match due to weather.
>The Owls fell in double overtime to the Memphis Tigers 2-1 in a heartbreaking loss.
>The Tigers controlled the first half, scoring on the first shot attempt of the game. Despite this, Nikolas Hartmann put together another well-played match, making four saves in the first half alone.
>Temple found their footing in the second half, firing six shots to Memphis' one. Mike Eijgendaal scored the game-tying goal for Temple off a cross from Sean Karani.
> Temple was unable to capitalize on their five shot attempts in overtime. Memphis scored the game-winning goal with only 1:07 remaining on the clock in the final overtime.
SCOUTING USF
> USF is 1-2 on the young season, all three of their games so far have been in conference.
> Following the opening match against Temple, the Bulls were throttled by No. 8 SMU 7-0.
>USF bounced back well last with a win 2-1 over No. 14 UCF in the War On I-4. The star of the match was AAC Goalkeeper of the Week Kazuna Takase. Takase was simply stellar for the Bulls, turning away 12 shots on 13 attempts.
> Senior star defender Avionne Flanagan played his final match for USF last week. The 2019 All-Conference selection will now depart from the team to join FC Cincinnati for preseason training camp.
