Moorman Named AAC Sportsmanship Award Recipient; Battle, Dunn Earn AAC Honors

3.10.21 | Men's Basketball

FORT WORTH, Tex. – Temple senior captain J.P. Moorman II was named the winner of the American Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award while sophomore Khalif Battle earned a spot on the league's Third Team all-conference and redshirt freshman Damian Dunn was tabbed as a member of the AAC All-Rookie team as the league announced its year-end awards today.

Moorman, a two-year captain for the Owls, is the first Temple player to win the AAC Sportsmanship Award.  The Greensboro, N.C. native exemplifies the ideal of true sportsmanship on and off the court.  The 6-7 forward has been one of the most active and engaged student-athletes in terms of speaking out about social injustice, and is a member of Temple's newly-formed student-athlete group, Owls4Justice, and is also a member of the AAC's Racial Equality Action Group.

Battle, who sat out Temple's first five games due to a hamstring injury, has moved from the team's top reserve to the Owls' leading scorer at 14.7 points per game and ranks second in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and made three-pointers (21).  As a starter the last three games, the 6-5 guard has averaged 25.0 ppg and 7.7 rpg.

Dunn, who started the first 12 games before being sidelined with a knee injury, ranks second on the team in scoring (13.3 ppg) and is fourth in the NCAA in free throws made per game (6.33) and attempts (8.25).  The 6-5 guard was leading the team in scoring (15.0 ppg) before being injured and playing just 12 scoreless minutes at Cincinnati.

Temple, the ninth seed, takes on eighth-seeded USF in the first round of the conference tournament Thursday (12 pm ET/ESPNU/1210 AM WPHT).
