Lacrosse to Face Philly Rival Drexel in Battle of the Unbeatens

PHILADELPHIA- Coming off a brilliant performance against Villanova last Friday, the Temple lacrosse team will look to keep the momentum going against the Drexel Dragons Wednesday afternoon. This match will feature the first meeting between inter-city rivals Drexel and Temple since 1996. The 3 P.M. game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
> The Temple offense has scored 17 goals in each of their first two matches. Likewise, in each of their first two games, they have scored more heavily in the first half.
> Sophomore midfielders Belle Mastropietro and Mackenzie Roth have helped lead the Temple offense to ninth best in the nation. The two lead the team in points with 12 and nine points, respectively.
> A large portion of Temple's success in this young season can be attributed to excellent play off of the draw. The Owls currently lead the nation in draw control percentage having won 79.5% of their draws. This has also allowed the defense to thrive, Temple currently ranks seventh in team defense.
> Three Temple players garnered accolades from the American Athletic Conference last week. Mastropietro was awarded Midfielder of the Week for the second consecutive week, Courtney Taylor won Defender of the Week, and attacker Meghan Hoffman was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
LAST TIME OUT: TEMPLE 17, VILLANOVA 2
> The Owls crushed the Villanova Wildcats 17-2 for the largest Temple win since defeating Cal 18-3 in 2016.
> Temple got out to a 13-0 lead by halftime in the best defensive performance since 4/21/02 when the Owls defeated UMass 14-2.
> Mastropietro set a new career-high with six goals. She also was one of seven Owls to add an assist.
> Temple won 18 draws to Villanova's two. This outstanding effort was largely led by Mastropietro and senior Bridget Whitaker, who controlled six each.

> The Dragons have impressed so far this season with a 3-0 record. Drexel has defeated Lehigh, St. Joseph's, and Georgetown all on the road.
> Drexel's success has been powered by their offense. The Dragons currently average 17.7 goals per game, good for seventh in Division I.
> Midfielders Lucy Schneidereith and Karson Harris are tied for third in D-1 for goals with 17 each. Attacker Colleen Grady is tied for fifth in points with 20. Grady and Harris were named to the All-CAA preseason team, while Schneidereith was an Honorable Mention.
> Drexel is led by Jill Batcheller. Batcheller is in her third season leading the Dragons after a very successful six-year run with Bryant. During her time at Bryant, the Bulldogs won the Northeastern Athletic Conference three times.

> Temple and Drexel are meeting for the fourth time in series history, with the Owls holding a 3-0 advantage.
