NORFOLK, Va- The No. 24/RV Temple lacrosse team (6-3, 2-2 AAC) completed a road sweep against the Old Dominion Monarchs (3-8, 1-3 AAC) 9-8 Sunday. Defender Kara Nakrasius scored her second game-winning goal of the season, finding the back of the net with only 24 seconds remaining on the clock.
Recapping the Game
> Old Dominion scored the first goal of the match after only 49 seconds. This would be the only goal of the game until Temple finally tied the match at 13:59 with a goal from Bridget Whitaker.
> The Monarchs quickly struck back with a score from attacker Lilly Siskind. This goal proceeded another scoreless drought for nearly seven minutes.
> Mackenzie Roth broke the drought and tied the game back up at two, but Old Dominion scored back-to-back goals to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
> The Owls came out firing in the second half. Jackie Cerchio and Meghan Hoffman scored a pair of quick goals to knot the score at four.
> The Monarchs retook the lead and held the one-goal advantage (5-4) for ten minutes before Temple ripped off a 3-0 run with two goals from Nakrasius and one from Meghan Hoffman.
> Old Dominion responded with a 3-0 run of their own to retake the lead with 6:12 remaining.
> The Owls had one last run in the tank. Belle Mastropietro capitalized on a free position shot to tie the game at eight. Then, with 24 seconds left, Nakrasius sunk her second game-winner of the year to give Temple the 9-8 victory.
Statistically Speaking
> Nakrasius earned the only hat trick of the game. Hoffman scored two goals and had two assists.
> Roth, Mastropietro, and Whitaker all scored one goal and had one assist. Cerchio scored one goal, while Gabrielle Kirsch and Abaigeal Ryan had one assist each.
> Mastropietro extended her scoring streak to nine games. She has scored in every game thus far.
> Temple has won the draw control battle every game this season. That streak continued as they dominated the draw 15-4.
Quotable
> "Kara's goal was exactly what we needed to win the game, and then Bridget's draw control at the end was huge to secure the win. The game is made up of a lot of little plays. Nothing makes that more clear than what you see at the end when one shot and one draw control wins the game." -- head coach Bonnie Rosen
