Temple Set to Host Murphy Cup This Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's crew team is set to open the 2021 spring campaign this Saturday at the 38th Memorial Murphy Cup Regatta. The Owls have not been in competition since October 27, 2019 as the previous spring season was canceled due to COVID-19.
The last time out at the Murphy Cup, the Owls made it to the grand finals in all four events entered, and the freshman eight boat earned the Owls a silver medal with a time of 6:44.34.
This year, the Owls welcome in-city schools Drexel, La Salle, and Penn. Head coach Brian Perkins says that the Owls will be ready for the challenge.
"The other city schools coming in have some high-caliber boats which will provide a great first test for our team, but I'm confident we'll be ready," Perkins said. "We've had a great offseason and we're looking forward to getting the season underway this Saturday."
For Saturday, races stretch from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with the freshman/novice eight boats kicking things off. Following that race, the third varsity eight boats go off at 9:25 a.m. with the varsity fours right after at 9:45 a.m. To wrap up the morning, the second varsity eight and varsity eight events go off at 10:10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively.
All races held will be finals.
