Lacrosse Tops ECU 11-6 On Senior Day, Earns Sixth Straight Win

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team defeated ECU 11-6 Sunday afternoon to close out its home slate. With the win, the Owls improve to 10-3 (6-2 AAC) while the Pirates fall to 3-11 (1-7 AAC). Temple's nine seniors were honored following the game as part of senior day activities.Â
Recapping the Game
> The Owls struck first, with Belle Mastropietro netting the ball off a pass from Bridget Whitaker.Â
> The Pirates took their only lead of the game at the 21-minute mark, scoring back to back goals to goal up 2-1.
> Temple scored the next three to go up 4-2, as Whitaker, Abaigeal Ryan, and Julie Schickling each dished a goal with two assists from Mackenzie Roth and one from Jen Rodzewich.
> ECU scored the final goal of the half with eight minutes left before the break, and the Cherry and White would take a narrow 4-3 lead into halftime.
> Temple would score three of the next four to open the second half, going up 7-4 with just over 20 minutes left in the game.
> East Carolina attempted to chip away at the Owls' lead, putting the score at 7-5 on an unassisted goal from Megan Pallozzi.
> The Cherry and White scored four-straight goals to secure the victory, while a Pirate goal with one second left on the clock sealed the game.
Statistically Speaking
> Whitaker and Mastropietro each recorded a hat trick, while Ryan scored twice. Three other Owls found the back of the net.
> Mastropietro played a complete game, firing six shots, causing three turnovers, and picking up two ground balls and six draw controls. Courtney Taylor also picked up a team-leading six draw controls.
> Temple dominated the draw once again, recording 15 to ECU's five.
> Roth dished a team-leading four assists. Meghan Hoffman remains in the hunt for the single-season assist record, needing two to break the record.
