Women’s Rowing Begins Medal Season this Saturday with the Murphy Cup Regatta
4.2.21 | Women's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's rowing takes to the Schuylkill River this Saturday for the start of medal season as they host the 38th Memorial Murphy Cup Regatta, taking on Drexel, Penn and La Salle. Men's crew is slated to race in the morning, with the women beginning their competition in the early afternoon.
After a 500+ day racing drought due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Temple opened its season last Saturday, racing in mixed lineups on the Schuylkill River against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Owls eight boat notched a 6:57.70 to take second place between two Rutgers boats. Temple's "White" four finished in 8:10.22, taking third place, while the "Cherry" four finished in 8:22.36 to take second in its race.
Temple rowing last saw Murphy Cup action in March 2019 on the Cooper River in New Jersey, winning the third varsity eight, as well as the varsity four and second varsity four events. The varsity eight won its finals-only race to earn the top spot, while the fours recorded the fastest times in the morning round of heats, earning them gold.
Races will start this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and run until 1:50 p.m. First up for the Owls will be the Varsity 4 at 12:30 p.m. This will be followed by back-to-back Varsity 8 races with the second Varsity 8 at 1:10 p.m. and Varsity 8 at 1:30 p.m.
