Crew Ready for a Busy Weekend
4.21.21 | Men's Crew
PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a solid performance last weekend that saw the heavyweights and lightweights rack up five wins and take home the Kerr Cup, the Temple men's crew squads get ready for a full weekend of races.
On Saturday, the heavyweights and lightweights split up as the heavyweights travel to Teaneck, N.J. for races against Holy Cross. Later in the day, the lightweights host Princeton on the Schuylkill River for their fourth consecutive set of races at home. The next day, the heavyweights get the day off as the lightweights travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Mercyhurst and Bucknell.
"Princeton is a great benchmark of the Eastern Sprints Conference speed, so we're glad they were able to get clearance and make the trip," lightweight coach Sean McKenna said. "As for Sunday, the guys are grateful to get some away racing in against perennial Dad Vail contenders. It will be a good test for our boats."
The Varsity Eight boat, fresh off a number eight ranking in the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll, are attempting to win their fifth race in a row on Saturday at 10:40 a.m. It will be a good test for the Owls as Holy Cross was ranked 16th in the IRA poll. Last weekend, the Varsity Eight boat won two races at the Kerr Cup, recording a time of 5:41.1 in the second race to defeat the Penn Lightweights and Washington College, and a time of 5:44.13 in the first race to defeat the Penn Heavyweights and #20 Saint Joseph's.
Shortly after, the second varsity eight boats will hit the water at 10:55 a.m. followed by the third varsity eight and the freshman eight at 11:10 a.m.
For the lightweights, the varsity lightweight eight boat gets the festivities started at the Schuylkill River on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. with the second lightweight eight right behind them at 4:15 p.m.
The next day, the lightweight eight and the second lightweight travel to Lewisburg, Pa. for races at 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
Live racing results will be tweeted from @Temple_MCrew as well as the @temple.crew Instagram story.
The heavyweight races will be live streamed on the @nyrarowing Instagram page.
