Kickoff Times Announced for 2021's First Six Weeks
5.27.21 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – The American Athletic Conference announced the starting kickoff times for the first three weeks of the 2021 season, along with several primetime and nationally-televised contests. Among the announcements were Temple's first six 2021 contests.
The Owls will begin the season at Rutgers with a BTN (Big Ten Network) prime-time broadcast of its opening day game on Thursday, September 2 at 6:30 p.m. The following week, Temple travels to Akron for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on September 11, with the game airing on ESPN+.
Temple hosts its first game at Lincoln Financial Field in week three taking on Boston College. That game will kickoff at noon and will be broadcast on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. The following week the Owls will host Wagner at noon on ESPN+.
The Owls will begin American Athletic Conference play with a home game against Memphis on October 2. That game will kick off at noon and the broadcaster will be announced at a later date. Temple's Friday night road game against Cincinnati (Oct. 8) will kick off at 7 p.m. in front of a nationally-televised ESPN audience.
Temple's remaining kickoffs and networks will be announced during the season under the traditional 12-day selection process.
Temple enters 2021 with no fewer than ten incoming transfers – nearly all from Power 5 schools. Running backs Ra'Von Bonner (Illinois) and Iverson Clement (Florida), quarterback D'Wan Mathis (Georgia) and wide receiver Amad Anderson Jr. (Purdue) will bolster an offense that returns a group of offensive linemen who have a total of 127 collegiate starts under their belt. Only seven FBS teams in the country have more experience.
On the defensive side, the line is revamped with the additions of Xach Gill (UNC), Jerquavion Mahone (Kentucky), Will Rodgers (Washington State), and Lancine Turay (UNC). The backend also added cornerbacks Keyshawn Paul (UConn) and Cameron Ruiz (Northwestern).
These top recruits join a team that also returns four single-digit players – wide receivers Randle Jones and Jadan Blue, linebacker William Kwenkeu and safety Amir Tyler. Jones, Kwenkeu and Tyler took advantage of the COVID-19 rule that permitted 2020 players an extra year of eligibility and now enter their sixth season in Cherry & White.
