Men’s and Women’s Tennis Collect ITA Academic Honors

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's and women's tennis teams were named All-Academic teams by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association while 12 Owls were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the organization Monday.

Men's tennis players Juan Araoz, Eric Biscoveanu, Marin Delmas, Thibault Frumholz, Louis Gorregues and Leo Raquin along with women's tennis players Ruoyo Chen, Oleksandra Doroshenko, Vineetha Mummadi, Stefaniya Surikova Sena Takebe and Yining Tian were all honored for their successes both on the court and in the classroom.

The women's tennis team garnered a team GPA of 3.56 while the men's team registered a GPA of 3.55. The academic honor marks the fourth-straight year for the women and the sixth-straight season for the men.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year (on a 4.00 scale) and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements: 1.) have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), 2.) all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and 3.) all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

Biscoveanu collected his fourth ITA Scholar-Athlete award, becoming the only Temple men's tennis player to do so. Araoz, Delmas and Frumholz all earned the honor for the second time in their careers, while Gorregues and Raquin were awarded with their first academic accolade. 

On the women's side, both Chen and Surikova were named ITA Scholar-Athletes for the third time, while Doroshenko and Tian earned their second and Mummadi and Takebe collected their first.
