Women’s Soccer Set to Travel to Nearby Saint Joseph’s This Thursday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (0-2-3, 0-0-0 AAC) looks for their first win of the season as they take on city foe, Saint Joseph's (0-4-2, 0-0-0 A10) this Thursday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. The match will be played at Sweeney Field and broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
The Owls 
  • Temple women's soccer dropped to 0-2-3 (0-0-0 AAC) on the season after a 0-1-1 performance last week. The Owls fell to Towson on the road, 2-0, and tied Rider at home, 1-1, in a hard fought, double overtime match.
  • Emily Kavanaugh notched the lone goal of the week after capitalizing on a corner kick sent in by Marissa DiGenova. After a scramble from both teams, Kavanaugh was able to sneak a shot past the Rider goalkeeper for the equalizer. 
  • The Owls are led offensively by Kavanaugh and Erin Theiller, each recording one goal on the season.
  • Kamryn Stablein, the AAC Goalkeeper of the Week last week, had another stellar performance on Saturday, making back-to-back double overtime saves on a Rider fast break opportunity to preserve the draw and save the game. 
  • After recording 12 saves on the week, Stablein now has 30 saves on the season and a .811 save percentage, leading the conference in both categories. 
 
Saint Joseph's
  • Saint Joseph's enters the match with an overall record of 0-4-2 (0-0-0 A10) after finishing the 2020-21 season 3-8-2 (2-5-1 A10).
  • Saint Joseph's returns Izzy Greene and Aleksa Peev, the 2020-21 leading point scorers for the Hawk squad. Greene tallied four goals and one assist for a total of nine points while Peev trailed close behind with six points on two goals and two assists.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti has recorded 37 saves and a .841 save percentage in just six games, entering the week ranked third in in both saves (37) and saves per game (6.17) in the Atlantic 10.
 
Game Preview
  • Temple is 5-13-3 all-time against the Hawks with the teams' last meeting coming in 2018. The Owls fell to the Saint Joseph's, 2-1, after the Hawks netted the go-ahead goal with just 10 seconds remaining in regulation to secure the win.
