Men’s Tennis Set for Two Road Matches

1.24.22 | Men's Tennis

PHIALDELPHIA – Temple men's tennis prepares for a two-match week on the road, first traveling across the city to Penn on Jan. 26, followed by Yale on Jan. 29.

The Owls
  • The Owls opened their 2022 slate on the road last week, falling 5-2 to VCU in a hard-fought match. The Cherry and White started off strong, securing the doubles point, but ultimately dropped to the Rams in singles play, earning one point to VCU's five.
  • Temple is coming off a successful fall campaign at the ITA Regional and Super Regional tournament. The doubles pair of Thibault Frumholz and Leo Raquin along with Louis Gorregues and Marin Delmas all punched their ticket to Super Regionals after playing their way to the doubles semifinal to qualify.
  • The most notable performance of the fall came from Delmas and Gorregues who advanced to the ITA Super Regional semifinal, falling just short of victory in a tie-break to nationally recognized UVA.
  • Last year, the Owls posted an 11-5 record, including a 3-0 home performance and five sweeps.
Scouting Penn
  • The Quakers started off their 2022 season with a home match on Friday, Jan. 14, welcoming Buffalo to the Hecht Tennis Center, sweeping them in a dominant 7-0 victory.
  • Penn had a successful fall season, headlining with the doubles pair of Edoardo Graziani and Kevin Zhu, who reached the ITA Regionals semifinals.
  • On an individual level, Graziani reached the singles semifinals at ITA Regional and posted an overall 8-2 singles record over the course of five fall events.
  • Last year, Penn faced a shortened season, competing only against local competition. The Quakers posted a 4-2 record, facing losses to Temple and Delaware.
  • The teams last met in 2021 at the Hamlin Tennis Center where the Owls triumphed over the Quakers, 5-2.
Scouting Yale
  • The match against Temple will serve as the Bulldogs second match of the season, after opening the year with Buffalo the day prior.
  • Last year, Yale did not compete in fall or spring play after the Ivy League decided to not hold competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The last official spring match for the Bulldogs came just under two years ago in March of 2020.
  • This fall, junior Michael Sun found individual success, advancing to the quarterfinals of ITA Regional tournament before falling to Max Westphal of Columbia. His dominant showing earned him the spot on the ITA Singles Top 125 rankings, clocking in at No. 69.
