1.6.22 | Football

PHILADELPHIA – Temple head coach Stan Drayton continued to put together his football staff announcing the additions of Chris Fenelon, Andrew Broocks, and Bruce Johnson to the strength and condition department. Fenelon will lead the staff as Head Strength and Condition Coach while Broocks and Johnson will each hold the title of Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.

"I'm very excited to work with Chris, Andrew, and Bruce," said Drayton. "Each one brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in preparing student-athletes to compete at their very best. They have worked with outstanding athletes and helped them reach levels they never would have without their guidance. I'm looking forward to seeing similar results with our team."

Fenelon comes to Temple after finishing his third season as a member of the Ohio State football strength and conditioning staff. During his time at OSU, the Buckeyes won two Big Ten Championships, and were part of two College Football Playoffs. In 2020, they beat Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, 49-28, before losing to Alabama in the National Championship Game.

A native of Bellerose, N.Y., Fenelon worked three years on the strength staff at Iowa State prior to moving to Ohio State. Prior to his time at ISU, he interned in the strength and conditioning department with the New York Jets for two seasons. He also worked as a graduate assistant at Toledo in 2014.

"I'm fired up to follow Coach Drayton's leadership," said Fenelon, "and I'm so excited to be a part of this prestigious, historic program here at Temple. I'm excited to bring Temple back."

Broocks comes to Temple from the United States Army where he worked as the lead strength and conditioning coach for the Combat Aviation Brigade. Prior to his time with the Army, the Spirit Lake, Iowa, native worked as a strength and conditioning coach for the football program at Cornell (2020-21), Iowa State (2016, 2019), Southern Illinois (2017-19) and Nebraska (2017).

"I am excited for the opportunity to work with Coach Drayton and assist the athletes in reaching their full potential," said Broocks.

Johnson returns to college athletics after many years in the public sector. He was the founder and director of performance for Helix Elite Performance. He has trained various professional football players and world-class track and field athletes and is well known internationally for the first-rate results in strength and conditioning that he produces for his clients. Whether providing NFL off-season player development for the likes of the late Cedric Benson, Vince Young, Cedric Griffin, Lamar Houston, Michael Griffin, Derrick Johnson, Jamaal Charles and two-time Super Bowl champion Aaron Ross or training elite athletes like Sanya Richards-Ross (four-time Olympic gold medalist and 400-meter American record holder) and Michael Tinsley (2012 Olympic silver medalist), the Helix Elite Performance brand delivered excellence.

Before Johnson ventured into the professional ranks, he served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for Texas from 2001-07. While with the Longhorns, the football team won the 2005 BCS National Championship and the women's track & field team won back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2005-06. Prior to his stint at Texas, Johnson coached at Minnesota (1999), Indiana (1999) and UNC-Charlotte (1997-1999).

"I am eager to join the Temple Football staff in their quest to develop student-athletes," said Johnson. "I share their passion for helping with the evolution of young minds while showing everyone how we put the 'T' in Temple TUFF."
