Owls in the NFL - Week 5

10.11.22 | Football

PHILADELPHIA – The news of the week is somber as former Temple head coach Matt Rhule (2013-16) was fired during his third season with the Carolina Panthers. Rhule's team was 1-4 in 2022 and 11-27 over two-plus seasons.

Former Owls - Robbie Anderson (2011-13, 2015), Sean Chandler (2014-17), Sam Franklin (2016-19), Matt Ioannidis (2012-15), P.J. Walker (2013-16), were unable to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in Rhule's last game, as they would lose, 37-15. Anderson caught one pass for 32-yards, Chandler and Franklin reeled in two tackles each, Ioannidis had one quarterback hit, and Walker led the team on its final drive.

The on-field action began Thursday Night, when Brandon McManus (2009-12) and the Denver Broncos faced off against the Indianapolis Colts. McManus carried his team, scoring all nine points (3FGs). Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Colts would prevail, 12-9 in overtime.

Haason Reddick (2013-16), Shaun Bradley (2016-19), and the Philadelphia Eagles traveled west to face off against former teammate, Michael Dogbe (2014-18), and the Arizona Cardinals. Philadelphia was able to remain undefeated, as they would win, 20-17. Reddick continued his streak of sacks, as he was able to reel in one sack, one tackle, one tackle-for-loss, and one quarterback hit. Dogbe was also able to come away with three tackles.

Chris Myarick (2016-18) and the New York Giants defeated Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, 27-22 across the pond in this week's London game. Myarick contributed one catch for four yards in their win.

Jacob Martin (2014-17) and the New York Jets dominated AFC East division rivals, the Miami Dolphins, 40-17 to win their second game in a row.

Todd Bowles (1982-85) and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated Arnold Ebiketie (2017-20), Matt Hennessy (2016-19), and the Atlanta Falcons. The NFC South division rivals would battle in a close one, 21-15. Ebiketie was able to walk away with two tackles.

Dion Dawkins (2013-16), Tyler Matakevich (2012-15), and the Buffalo Bills returned home this week, where they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 38-3. Dawkins propelled Josh Allen and the Bills offense to this dominating win, as they gained over 550 yards. Matakevich continued to see work on special teams.

Rock Ya-Sin (2018) and his Las Vegas Raiders closed out the week on Monday Night Football with a narrow defeat, 30-29, at Kansas City. Ya-Sin had three tackles and one pass defensed.
