Owls' Volleyball Drops 3-2 to Memphis on Sunday

Temple moves to 6-3 in five set matches this season
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Owls volleyball team played their ninth five-set match of the season on Sunday afternoon inside McGonigle Hall, this time falling to the Memphis Tigers 20-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-27,12-15.
The Owls fall to 8-13 overall and 2-8 in the AAC, including 6-3 in five-setters. The Tigers move to 16-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Owls were up 2-1 going into the fourth set. However, Memphis was able to come from behind to defeat the Temple in five sets.
- Three Owls, including Jelena Prolic, Taylor Davenport, and Peyton Boyd, accumulated at least 20 kills in the match. Prolic and Davenport led the match with 22 kills, while Boyd set a career-high with 20.
- Boyd and Prolic had double-doubles in the match for the Cherry and White
- Memphis had four players with double-digit kills, led by Jasmyn Tate with 16.
Set 1 (Memphis 22, Temple 25)
- There was one tie early in the set (2-2), but the Tigers led throughout, led by Tate's 4-for-4 on kills attempts.
- The Subotica, Serbia native, Prolic led all hitters with six kills on seven attempts.
Set 2 (Temple 25, Memphis 19)
- With the score tied at 11-11, the Owls went on a 4-1 scoring run with the help of a Boyd kill and service ace to take the lead 17-13.
- Just as TU took the lead, the Tigers came back to score three straight points to cut the deficit to one point. However, Temple won eight of the last 11 points, forcing Memphis into four hitting errors.
- Boyd (5) and Prolic combined for nine kills for the Owls in the second-set win.
Set 3 (Temple 25, Memphis 23)
- The Owls jumped out to a five-point advantage (13-8) with the help of five kills from Boyd in that span.
- With the Temple clinging to a four-point (21-17) advantage, the Tigers rallied to tie the score 21-21 with Bailey Houlihan at the service line. However, the Tigers could never secure the lead as Prolic had three of her four kills down the stretch.
- Boyd led the set with seven kills on 11 attempts.
Set 4 (Memphis 25, Temple 25)
- The fourth set featured 20 tie scores and 11 lead changes.
- Neither side held the lead by more than two points until set point.
- Only three Owls would have kills in the stanza, led by a set-high six from Davenport; Prolic had five, and Boyd with three, while four Tigers had three or more kills in the set. Miaya Smith also had six kills in the set.
Set 5 (Memphis 15, Temple 11)
- With the score knotted at four, Memphis surged past the Owls with a 4-0 run that gave them an 8-4 lead as Davenport was stuffed at the net on back-to-back plays.
- A relentless Davenport came back with kills on three out of four points to cut the Tigers' lead to 10-8.
- The Owls clawed back to tie the score at 11-11, but Memphis scored four of the set's final five points to pick up the match victory.

The Owls return to action on Sunday, Oct. 28, with an AAC match with the Houston Tigers in Houston at 8 p.m. ET and then on Sunday, Oct. 30, at Tulane at 2 p.m. ET.
