Temple Falls in First-Ever Meeting with FIU
10.5.22 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer team (2-6-2, 0-4-0 AAC) fell to the FIU Panthers (7-3-0, 3-1-0 AAC) 3-0 Wednesday night. Temple will look ahead to face a tough Memphis squad on Sunday night.
How it Happened
> Temple's best chances came in the eighth minute with back-to-back opportunities from Chaim Roserie and Yann Kouemi. Roserie used some fancy footwork to beat the keeper and fired off a quality chance, but an FIU defender was able to cover ground and block the shot. Kouemi fired one from the top of the box on the rebound with the keeper out of position, but that shot also was stopped.
> FIU scored its first goal in the 12th minute.
> Temple keeper Eoin Gawronski made a truly excellent save in the 50th minute. After stopping one ball on a rebound, the captain was quickly challenged again and made an acrobatic diving stop to deny FIU the goal.
> The Panthers scored in the 60th minute on a PK chance and again in the 63rd to go up 3-0.
> Despite good opportunities from Lleyton Imparato and George Medill, Temple could not get on the board. The Owls fell 3-0.
Game Notes
> Freshman George Medill played the first full 90 of his career.
> The four yellow cards were split evenly, two on Temple and two on FIU.
From the Coach
> "Obviously disappointed, we had chances to score and didn't score. These games are coming down to small details and we are coming out on the wrong side. We'll keep putting in the work and see if we can flip the table."-- head coach Brian Rowland.
