Volleyball Loses 3-2 to ECU in Midweek AAC Match

Owls suffer first five-set loss of the season
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple volleyball team dropped its first five-set match of the season as it lost to the East Carolina Pirates on Wednesday night inside McGonigle Hall, 21-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 10-15.
In the loss, the Owls dropped to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the AAC, while the Pirates moved to 7-10 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Owls' libero Falanika Danielson achieved 1000 digs for her career with 17 digs in the match. Additionally, three other Cherry and White volleyball players earned career-highs in the loss, including Jelena Prolic with 24 kills, defensive specialist Nalani McBride added 25 digs, and setter Magdalena Rogalaska added 58 assists and 13 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (ECU 25, Temple 21)

Temple returns to action on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET against the Cincinnati Bearcats in McGonigle Hall. The first 200 fans in attendance will recieve a pair of socks sponsored by Coca-Cola.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Owls topped the Pirates in many of the statistical categories on the night including, hitting percentage (.218-.198), assists (68-48), kills (71-54), blocks (9-7)
- However, East Carolina's serve was a factor in the match as they totaled seven aces compared to the Owls four. The Pirates had only three service errors compared to seven by TU.
Set 1 (ECU 25, Temple 21)
- With three ties and just one lead change, the Pirates led the majority of the set.
- Temple jumped out to a 4-2 advantage before East Carolina's Payton Evenstad rattled off three straight serves that gave the Pirates a 5-4 lead. The Owls tied the score on the next serve, but ECU began to pull away from Temple and never fell behind again in the set.
- East Carolina's Izzy Marinelli led all players with six kills with a .333 hitting percentage.
- Prolic and Taylor Davenport recorded four kills apiece for Temple, but with hitting percentages below .155.
Set 2 (Temple 25, ECU 18)
- After a 2-2 score, Temple never trailed in the set with the help of a .424 hitting percentage.
- In a stark contrast to set one, Prolic and Davenport hit .300 and .400, respectively, with five kills apiece.
- Rogalska efficiently ran the Temple offense with 14 assists on 25 attempts.
Set 3 (ECU 25, Temple 19)
- Temple jumped out to a 12-3 lead to start the set, including a 4-0 run with the help of three Prolic putaways.
- With Temple ahead, 12-5, the Pirates began to score multiple points on their sideouts. Kenzie Beckham served three and four points on separate occasions, and Kellyn Trowse scored five points on her serve.
- During that run, Angeles Alderete had four kills of her five kills in the set win for ECU.
Set 4 (Temple 25, ECU 18)
- In the fourth set with Temple down, 7-6, Temple's Kayla Spells used her serve to give the Owls four straight points. During that rally, the Owls forced the Pirates to three straight errors, including back-to-back blocks from Samantha Jo Mikosky.
- Temple never trailed from that point, winning the set on a 15-11 run. Prolic had five of her eight kills during that span.
