Volleyball Tames Tigers on Friday; Wins 3-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Led by Jelena Prolic's 18 kills, 11 digs double-double, the Temple Owls defeated the Memphis Tigers on Friday, 25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 25-14, improving to 10-16 overall and 4-11 in AAC play.

Prolic's 11th double-double of the season dropped the Tigers to 17-11 overall and 7-8 in conference play.

Prolic's 11th double-double of the season dropped the Tigers to 17-11 overall and 7-8 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Owls' hitters Taylor Davenport and Peyton Boyd added 14 kills apiece.
- With her 14 kills, Boyd hit .464, the fourth time this season the redshirt senior hit over .400 in a match.
- Davenport matched her career-high with six aces, a mark she set earlier this season on Oct. 21 versus SMU in McGonigle Hall.
- Friday marked the fourth straight match that Prolic, Boyd, and Davenport have tallied double figure kills in a match.
- As a team, the Cherry and White hit .286, their second-best output of the season.
- It was the ninth time this season the Owls tallied eight or more service aces in a match.
Set 1 (Temple 25, Memphis 19)
- Memphis took the 1-0 lead to start the match, but Temple tied the score on the next point, ran the table the rest of the way, winning 25-19, while hitting .263 as a team.
- Davenport's serve played a big part in the first-set win when the Owls scored six straight points, including three aces.
- Prolic and Davenport led the team with five kills apiece.
- Prolic sealed the set victory, scoring the last three Owls' points with kills.

Set 2 (Temple 25, Memphis 18)
- After scoring the match's first point, the Tigers finally took their second lead (5-4) of the night on a Gigi Cresenzo kill.
- Falanika Danielson strung together four straight points on her serve, while Prolic scored three kills during the run.
- The Owls hit .282 in the set, with Prolic matching the set-high with Memphis' Cresenzo with five kills.
- Like Prolic in the first set, Davenport sealed the Owls'' set win with three kills of the team's final five points.
Set 3 (Memphis 25, Temple 22)
- The Tigers jumped out to an 8-3 advantage, forcing Temple into a timeout as Alexis Lewis put together three kills in the run.
- The Owls turned the tide, taking a 12-10 lead as Danielson and Prolic teamed up again as they did in set two. With Danielson serving, Prolic had three kills during the run.
- The teams traded the lead in the final stages of the fourth set, but the Tigers held off Temple to earn the set win.
- Memphis hit .303 in the set, led by Lewis' seven kills, as she hit .778 on nine attempts with no errors.
Set 4 (Temple 25, Memphis 14)
- Temple dominated the final set, hitting .394 as a team, while holding the Tigers to .125
- Temple put the set away in a seven-point run where Patrycja Zielinska and Davenport combined for three service aces
- Boyd led all hitters with five kills on seven attempts, no errors, and hitting .714.
