Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to SMU

DALLAS, Texas – The Temple volleyball team fell to the SMU Mustangs on Sunday in straight sets, 10-25, 17-25, 21-25.
In the loss, the Owls drop to 10-17 overall on the season and 4-12 in the AAC, while the Mustangs move to 20-8 overall and 13-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Six players on the SMU had four or more kills in the match, led by Jamison Wheeler with seven.
- The Mustangs held the Owls to a .000 hitting percentage while tabulating a .257 percentage for themselves.
- SMU had nine team blocks, led by Alex Glover with five.
Set 1 (SMU 25, Temple 10)
- SMU hit .348 with 10 kills and two errors on 23 attempts.
- SMU finished the set on a 10-0 scoring run
- The Mustangs had four team blocks, including Alex Glover and Marieke van der Mark with three apiece.
- Van der Mark (3), Glover (3), and Natalie Perdue (3) combined for nine SMU kills of the 10 total.
Set 2 (SMU 25, Temple 17)
- The Owls won the first point of the set, but SMU didn't allow them to stay on top for long.
- Later in the set with Temple trailing, 10-5, the Owls would go on a 6-1 run to tie the score 11-11 as it got a pair of kills from Peyton Boyd, one from Chelci Banks, and a service ace from setter Magdalena Prolic.
- The Mustangs finished out the set on a 12-6 run as they got seven kills in that span, led by a pair from Natalie Perdue, Jayden Bauss, and London Austin-Roark.
- Jamison Wheeler led SMU in the set with four kills on five attempts while hitting .600.
Set 3 (Memphis 25, Temple 22)
- SMU led 3-0 to start the set, but Temple again fought back after three straight points to tie the set 3-3.
- The Mustangs extended their lead to six points (12-6), but the Owls were able to cut the deficit to three points on three separate occasions, but were unable to get a handle on the lead in the third set.
- The Owls held the Mustangs to a .186 hitting percentage as they had a strong block in the final set. Samantha Jo Mikosky and Taylor Davenport led Temple with two blocks apiece.
- Jelena Prolic found a hot hand as she had four kills on seven attempts and hit .571.

Temple will be back in action next weekend at home in Philadelphia to close out its home portion of the regular season. On Friday, Nov. 19, the Owls will host Senior Night against USF at 7 p.m. ET and then will face off against nationally-ranked UCF on Sunday, Nov. 19 at noon. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.
